As others, I can't see anything here that can be improved upon, and yet it is a fairly common look and pose. Yet, there is something very striking about this photograph - it draws the eye and sticks in one's mind. Besides, the model reminds me of Scarlett Johannsen, and she sticks in anyone's mind.

When seen in the context of the larger body of this man's work, the positioning of the woman is predictable. What makes this one photograph relatively unique within that context is the distance from her and the background, both of which contribute to the overall effect of the photograph (along with the 'bokeh' of the lens).
I find this image enigmatic, rather than 'lyric'. Enigmatic in the same fashion that I find the 'Mona Lisa' enigmatic - it is strange and compelling. The longer one looks at her the more one sees in her and yet there is no overt expression or action depicted which would give one a sense of what's in her mind. And yet there is something there. An enigma, yes?

Taken at the Cavalcade of Planes in Bolingbrook, IL, 04JUN07, as the
plane took off on yet another short flight around the field.
Aperture set at f8, camera chose the shutter. ISO 400. Canon EFS 18-
55mm at 55mm. Photo cropped to about 1/3rd original. RAW converted
to jpeg in Picasa.

There are a few photographs that exist here on PN that I visit, from time to time, because they stick in my mind as images that I will never forget - never get tired of looking at and drawing inspiration from. This has become one of them. The composition is perfect. The color evokes a feeling of distance in time and place - a sense of mystery and strangeness of culture and surroundings.
Thank you so much for sharing this vision with us.

That has to be the best kid shot I have ever seen - the fact that the lighting is perfect and the detail and texture within the pic are exactly right notwithstanding.

Is it just me, or does the closeness of this photograph make the chin and nose appear too heavy and does that not give the model a slightly manish appearance? Actually, upon further reflection - it's the lighting and the fact that her nose is strongly outlined and her chin is highlighted - giving both too much strength.

This is my first upload to photo.net. This is a type of photo I
want to be able to explore further. Markie is such a little ham -
he just naturally likes to be in front of the camera - but at times
he is *very* intense.

In comparing Piotr's shot with the cropped version given later in discussion the brilliance of Piotr's shot comes to the fore. The cropped version is the more 'commercial' interpretation, if you will - the sort of thing one would see in a brochure describing the wonders of 'quaint Scotland'. Piotr's shot is anchored by the rock foreground - it lends a solid and timesless feeling to the place that the commercial crop lacks. Lovely work, Piotr.

I have been taking shots of this old Diner for years - watching her
slowly deteriorate. This is the first time I've discovered signs of
habitation. I felt like an intruder.
