  1. I have a Mamiya 645e (standard 80mm lens) and have used it with good results

taking pictures from a helicopter of construction sites. One of the problems is

some of the sites are small, and not been able to go lower than 1500 ft, I dont

fill the frame with the 80mm lens. I am not a professional, just do this for

fun and to help out the place where I work. A zoom lens is out of the question,

too expension. Forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, but would a 2x

teleconvertor be any use, ie, bring the objects in to fill the frame, also,

would a 160mm telephoto lens be any use? Does a 160mm telephoto mean a fixed

160mm, and is that twice the 'zoom' of my standard 80mm lens?

    Thanks

  2. Hi,

How does the Fuji gl690 compare to lets say a pentax 6x7 ? In terms

of being a good camera for aerial photography of commercial

buildings, with the ability to blow up the negs to about 24" x 36"

colour prints. Is the 1/500th shutter speed of the fuji good enough

for aerial photography (from a helicopter)

    Thanks

  3. Hi,

I got my slides back from my aerial photography session. I had them

scanned in and save digitally. It was a low-cloud day, and I got a

fair amount of cloud/haze in the pics. Does anyone know of a plug-in

for Photoshop that removes haze ?

    Thanks

  4. Thanks Rich,

Its an Ebay auction, so I will not get an apportunity to test.

    This is what he says

"pentax 6x7, non mirror-up (early model). You will see from photo that the body has brassing , to be expected with age.

the mirror and shutter mechanism is working fine, aswell as film advance. lens is in very good condition, with no scratches or marks, has uv lens filter attached.

Original metal lens hood and strap attached.

Copy of instruction manual and test report."

So far its cheap (about $100) but still almost 2 days left.

  5. I have a chance to buy an early pentax 6x7, non mlu, 105 lens, the

owner says no light leaks, film advance ok, lens perfect, shutter

    fine.

I am used to my Mamiya 645e now, which is great, metered prism, etc.

Will the pentax be any better than the 645e ( I am mainly interested

in aerial photography) will the non metered prism of the Pentax be a

problem in aerial photos? What is the max shutter speed of this early

    pentax 6x7 ?

    Thanks

  6. Thanks everyone for some great advice, if that older one goes cheap enough I may go for it, currently at about ?60 or so. If not I will look for a later one. They do bring a high price, are they that much better than the Bronicas and Mamiyas ?

    Thanks again,

    John

  7. I am thinking of buying an older Pentax 6 x 7, is there anything I

    should watch out for ?

The camera is advertised as: "6x7, non-MU body, 105mm f2.4 super-

    takumar lens"

I dont need mirror lock up, I am going to use it for aerial

    photography.

    Thanks

  8. Thanks for all your comments, this is what the seller says about his camera body, (which is going cheap)

"MAMIYA 645 S BODY. Fair condition, all shutter speeds working, mirror lock up working, complete with strap, body cap, winding lever and instuction booklet.

MAMIYA 645 AE PRISM FINDER. Well used to fair condition, meter working fine, choice of average or spot readings, missing rubber eyepiece and eyepiece blind not closing fully. This is only important if you intend shooting on auto exposure with your eye away from the finder. Complete with instruction leaflet.

MAMIYA 645 120 FILM BACK. Well used, includes insert and darkslide.

I have most of the protective caps for these items if required.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CAMERA WILL NOT BE SUPPLIED WITH A BATTERY."

What does anyone make of this advert?

  9. If I scan a medium format slide (6 x 4.5)at 3200 dpi on an Epson 3170

scanner, and enlarge it to about 20" x 30", what sort of quality can

I expect, and what would the dpi be at 20" x 30" ?

    Thanks
