Thanks for your replies to my previous posting but I could still do
with a couple more questions answering.---My original requirement was
to be able to photograph, bugs and flower parts etc, such that the
subject fills the frame in the camera, thus not requiring excessive
post enlargement and cropping.---My F717's lens 9.7-48.5mm (38mm-
190mm 35mm equiv)when in macro mode focuses from 2cm-50cm (.8"-2.0")
with the zoom set to full wide angle.---So do you have any idea what
F/L lens I would need to use (Reversed) to get a working distance of
say around 1ft-2ft from the subject?---Do you have any idea what
distance the 50mm std 35mm SLR lens might be used at?---I really
can't afford to go out and buy a range of lenses and adaptor rings as
you can imagine that would be very costly.---I'm trying to "focus" in
on the right solution first time if I can.---I am hoping one of you
more skilled in macro work, might know just the right combination.---
Thanks again,---Dave H (UK ESSEX)

Would mounting either an Olympus or Pentax standard 50mm lens
reversed on the front of my DSC F717 lens help with macro work?
I want to get high mag images of critters with more workable distance
between camera and subject. In believe you can get male to male
thread adaptor rings. Is reverse the right way? Does anyone know?
Thanks in anticipation,

Hi John
So did you eventually buy a decent lens? If yes what was it/they?
Have you or anyone tried the Raynox lenses or are they no better than the stuff John has been experiencing?

Thanks for that fellers.
I am afraid that I have tried most of what you suggest with little satisfaction.
What about close-up lenses. you know the 1x-diopta 4x-diopta etc. that you screw onto the front of your main lens?
It was suggested to me that going to something extreme, maybe like 25x-diopta might do the job. I don't know anywhere that would allow me to try that out though, and I would imagine they might be quite expensive to buy enough glass to make up the pack required to get to 25x. Then of course it may not work at all!!

Hi David
Did you consider claiming for repair on your house contents policy?
I dropped my SVHS Video camera. There was no external visible damage but it would not record or image properly after the event.
My insurance company collected the camera took it to their repairers who deemed it not cost effective to repair. They then paid me to get a new camera. Problem solved. Of course you have to have a 'New for Old' policy. If it had been repairable then it would have been free of charge!!
At least going through an insurer your camera will be going to a reputable repair service and you don't get ripped off.
What is insurance for?

I want to get in real close on bugs and flower parts etc. Macro stuff.
I use a Sony DSC F717 and while it has a macro facility you have to
be vitually touching your subject to 'Fill The Screen'
How can I fill the screen from further back, say a foot to 18 inches?

Just a thought you could always fit filters between the 717 lens and the W/A. If you have a circular polarizer, you could remove the filter and use the frame for rotating any other filter you may fit!

Hi Rick
I found the reference to the Olympus lenses. Go look at this URL & you can read it for yourself http://www.dukegledhill.co.uk/sonyf7x7/wideangle.asp
Hope it helps. I too am looking for a wide angle conversion lens and these appeal to me.

Hi Rick
I too posted a question involving the Sony F717. It was in regard to if an Olympus T32 flash would work on the 717. Replies zero!!!
I get the distinct impression that we Sony users are not considered in the frame. I hope I am wrong BUT!!!
Re your question:- I read somwhere on the web that we should look at an Olympus W/A lens but I am sorry I cannot remember the Lens Number.
I will now go searh for it & if I find it I will report back on the article.

Hi
In answer to your question of tele & wide lenses for the 707/717 the following passage, which was taken from a very interesting site namely "http://www.digitalsecrets.net/Sony/SonyAccessories.html" may be of interest to you.
Sony has introduced two new converters, one for wider shots, the other for longer tele views. They're not cheap at $279 and $299 respectively and we will review them as soon as we can. Look for the VCL-HGD0758 wide and VCL-HG1758 tele optics. It apears that they both have 58mm mount threads.

Circular Polarization
in Mirrorless Digital Cameras
Posted
Hi.
Can anyone explain in, layman terms, why digital cameras, still and
video, need to have circular polarizing filters rather than linear?
Thanks
