  1. Just signed up through paypal. Slightly embarrassed that it has taken Sandy's generous offer to finally make me pull my finger out since I have been plucking pearls of wisdom from the site for about 2 years now.

Keep up the good work - photo.net is a great inspiration to all of us around the world.

  2. It doesn't look like the 7660 is able to use the no. 59 cartridge, which is the key to the b&w performance of the 7960 from what I can gather. I too am interested in being able to print good quality b&w so am very intersted in the 7960. However, it is an A4 printer and HP don't appear to produce an equivalent A3 or A3+ version. Does anyone know if this is on the cards? A4 just isn't big enough, especially for b&w.
  3. Well, I've had a couple of Seagate drives fail on me and haven't used them since, but there's really no way of telling whether any particular drive manufacturer / drive type is better or worse than the others.

Any drive can fail at any time so what you might like to consider is buying 2 new drives of the same size (possibly different manufacturers so you don't get 2 off the same dodgy production line) and mirror them. In Windows XP this can be done quite easily without the need for any further hardware or software. You just see one logical drive but the data is written to both physical drives at the same tim. Not sure about Mac's - Windows 9x certainly can't do this as standard, so depends what OS you are running.

Mirroring can cover you from the risk of drive failure, but you should still invest in some kind of offline, and preferably offsite, storage for when your entire pc gets accidentally crushed.

  4. Thanks Ed,

That sounds like good advice. I must admit I was tending to move my images off the CF card(s) via a card reader and not necessarily re-format the cards after returning them to the camera. I have also been using selective delete in the camera itself, so I'll try your suggestions to see if that improves the situation. Have also just cleaned the inside of the CF card compartment with an air spray in case I was getting dirty connections to the cards.

I am loath to send the camera to a Canon service centre until I can get more of a feel for what might be wrong - this phenomenon is intermittent so I can imagine what the response might be!

  5. I recently bought a used D60 and have had 2 occurrences of the

camera 'losing' images. The camera shoots fine, then suddenly

reports that it has vastly more frames available than it had before,

in fact more than would fit on the card in the camera. It continues

to shoot, but if I remove and reinstall the card the camera reports

no images. On my pc, the card appears empty apart from the CANONMSC

folder, but the available space suggests space has been used.

I tried a couple of undelete utilities that only found files that I

had shot weeks ago, suggesting to me that the 'lost' files were

never actually written to the card in the first place. This has

    happened with 2 different cards.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Any suggestions? I am rapidly

losing faith in this otherwise great camera....
