I love the contrast of the purple/blue on the green. It stands out and higlites the flower.

Focussing slightly further forward, would have allowed the front of the purple to be in focus. At the moment it is slightly distracting

It works becuase of the reflection in the water. The large stone on the left adds to the reflection and composition. If the stones were not present, then it would have been better to crop to the right

While good detail in the fur, the left eye is a bit soft. A larger dof field, would have solved this.

When I took this photo, I used centre weighting, to try and reduce the

exposure effect of the sky, and then underexposed by one stop.

 

Looking at the result, I now feel that I have underexposed the pilot.

 

Any other comments, on how I could improve another attempt at this.

 

Faults I have spotted. Horizon not horizontal and image not as sharp

as I would like. This is more from scanning.

Hans by snapshot, do you mean in comparison to a shot that isn't planned, eg setup with a P&S or no thought given to DOF etc?
