  1. Users, & potential users, of the GR-D will be aware that it has no built in

viewfinder. Ricoh do however offer a hot-shoe fitting auxillary viewfinder de-

lineated with both 28mm & 21mm framelines; the latter needed if you also

purchase the 21mm supplementary lens. The Ricoh viewfinder is expensive at

GBP129 & is very much a clone of the CV range. If you don't need the 21mm

option, the CV 28mm viewfinder can be had from Ffordes at just GBP49.

    Bargain !!

  2. I've recently acquired a Leitz Eldia Kopier-Apparat which I believe to be a

Leica film contact printer. The Eldia is in almost new condition, with the

original box (a little tired) but no instructions. Handwritten on the

inderside of the box is a catalogue number, 17900. Anyone any idea of UK

value ? May consider selling. Thanks in advance.

  3. Andre, I too do a number of weddings each year for friends & recommendations. I have an identical lens stable to yours plus the excellent 75mm heliar. I would NOT however even contemplate doing a wedding with anything less than two bodies. This gives you the essential insurance factor and the option of doing both B/W and colour. Actually I use two M6s for this purpose and have my originsal M4 as the insurance. The cost of the Heliar is a bargain, so I would suggest one of these plus a secondhand M6 classic (the cheapest of the used M6 bodies around). A second body is a MUST have.
  4. There have been innumerable threads on this forum as too which bag is

the most suitable for our Leicas. Invariably the Domke F-803 is

listed at or very near the top of user lists. This bag does however

carry a not insignificant price tag (Leica hardware excepted !!).

Whilst trawling everyones' favourite auction site I came across

a "Like" Domke F-803 from a dealer in Shanghai. Having just received

it, I can say it is of remarkable build quality, one hell of a clone,

& a veritable bargain at about a quarter of the Domke price. I have

absolutly no connection with the seller whose *bay shop can be found

at RJ Camera Accessory Store (also does "F-802s").

  5. In October 2001 I bought two camera bodies. A secondhand M6 classic

@ ?895 and a new Nikon D1 at ?3,350. Less than four years on, the

current secondhand UK retail values of these bodies is ?895 and ?490

respectively. With the Leica M series remaining relatively constant

for the past fifty years and with digital SLRs being "updated" every

six months or so, it apears that only one group gains; the

manufacturers. I will not be upgrading the D1 & at such a loss it is

pointless selling it on; just cut my losses. Is this the true cost

of the "progress" of photographic technology? For all intents &

purposes I have now stopped using the D1 &, with film processing from

the Leica, just have everything scanned to CD. The best of both

worlds at no capital outlay. Digital hasn't made me a better

photographer, just a much poorer one !

  6. Can anyone please assist me with the following compatibility

    problem. I have an M4-2 s/n 1505307. Together with this I own a

first issue M4-2 winder (part #14214) s/n 11321 with battery

compartment part #14227. According to my research, which I admit

could well be faulty, this winder should be compatible. Despite a

lot of huff & puff there is no way I can make it fit however.

Neither body or winder are warped or dented & the body's normal

    baseplate fits perfectly. Any suggestions...........

  7. Following a number of posts on this site, I have just taken delivery

of a Luigi M half case in antique leather. I can only say the

workmanship is outstanding and fits the M like a second skin,

virtually marries it! The cases are not cheap but then neither is

the M series. Like Leica, you get what you pay for. For the

non "bag" lovers amongst us, this has got to be the ONLY M must have.

    Wonderful.

  8. I will be visiting New York for the first time from the UK next

month. Can any members please recommend (with addresses) reputable

stockists of secondhand Leica & Nikon gear in New York. Many

thanks. Out of curiousity, whats' the s/h $ price of a mintish M6

body over there at the moment?

  9. Whist accepting the existance of the M6 shots & the Leica M history

screensavers, there are none available of "real" kit. Anyone out

there got gems of shots of their own M series hardware that they can

post so we can construct our own screensavers (simplity itself in

XP). Rarities and battered & bruised images welcomed. Thanks in

    advance.

  10. Having quite literally just bought a used 90mm F2.8 Elmarit (UK £195)which I believe to be a first version, can someone please enlighten me as to the following: at what point did production pass from Wetzlar to Canada & when did the script around the front element change from red to white (or vice versa). Thanks in advance.
