I own 180. I have no choice, it is not pissble to buy Tamron here.<br>
Be aware that Sigma 180 is quite soft at normal (non-macro) focusing distance.<br>
But I works with 1.4xTC (still it will be too much focal distance for 10D), don't know how about Tamron.

<i>>I believe most (all?) Quantaray lenses are made by Sigma</i><br>
As far as I know, Quantaray/Vivitar made by Cosina, not Sigma.
-
I shoot small insects with Sigma 180/3.5 and EOS D30 and found 180mm working distance quite useful. It's possible to use 550EX with long macro lens but harsh shadows can appear.
-
I'd check if it works with battery grip attached to 300V body. Maybe it's stupid idea but I hear about problems with low-end bodies and 70-200 caused by its weak battery (even when battery was new!).<br>
Each EOS body is compatable with any EF lens :)
-
If you want 3rd-party standart lens, I'd think about Tokina 28-70 or Sigma 28-70. Both don't look sharp @ 70/2.8, but Sigma 24-70 is softer in my opinion.<br>
Of course prime are better but you've wrote nothing about what you're going to shot. Switching lens is not fun for me too =:)
-
It depends on subject and the distance from the print to the beholder ;)<br>
Let's print a bill - 10x15 feets - and put it near the highway.... I swear that no driver will see pixels :)<br>
Let's print 10x15'' (I like this size)... Ok, it's nice when viewing from 2 meters.. even my D30 makes good 10x15'' print from that distance :)<br>
Lets' print 10x15cm... and get good magnifying glass... What's a hell, I see only dots and pixels here!! ;)<br>

I'll never see vingetting on 10D because of 1.6 crop. I'd buy 82->77mm step down ring (or maybe even 82->72) and 77mm (or 72mm) standart cheap thick polariser with thread for lens cap.
-
This is expected: review on luminous-landscape.com and statistics from photozone.de report heavy vingetting . This is after all "standart lens for 10D" :(
-
Something like 85/1.8, 35/2, 50/1.8, 24/2.8<br>
I own 280 Tokina - my not sharp @2.8 at all. Photozone is right - Tokina 280 becames sharp @5.6 or even 8.0 and still but not really sharp comparing with great primes such as 85/1.8 or 50/1.4.
-
Hey, I'd buy at least one good lens for $1500 body! ;) For example, 85/1.8, 70-200/2.8(4) L (old 80-200 non-USM L, sigma 70-200 EX and 200/2.8L prime are quite cheap) or other *sharp* lens.<br>
Almost all canon consumers zooms are bad compared with any prime or L non-wide-zoom. Yes, they produces pictures and often they produces good picture but you've asked about quality :)
-
One upon a time I put my hand on this hood, not lens. And of course I have pressed this little things. Oops, the hood deattached and 85/1.8 drops onto floor! Nothing broken but I still accidentally press this things from time to time. Strange cheap-looking construction. Very strange that one of the best canon's lens has such inconveniently hood.

<i>To my knowledge Canon is the only manufacturer of these specialty type lenses for the 35mm format anyway.</i> <br>
Sorry, but you knowledge is uncomplete.<br>
Nikon has series of PC (perspective correction) lens with T&S, including superp T&S 90mm macro.<br>
There're also a few shift-only lens for 35mm (Sheider, russian Mir)<br>
-
3Mp is almost enough for 8x10 without cropping.<br>
But you need good AF for wildlife. I'm using D30 for bird shots... In low light condition, it causes real pain. I believe that after using superb EOS 3 AF system you will have very few shots in focus :(<br>
D60 has almost the same AF's system.<br>
If you wanna just add EOS D30, not replace EOS 3 - ok, it's your bag and your shoulder =:)
-
Of course, Sigma 500 DG super works well with current digital EOS (I've tried it with my D30), but I hear about problems with PS G2/G3. It will work with 550 via E-TTL but Sigma's controls are different from my 550EX (I cannot say it really worse but different).
-
1. Bite the bullet :)<br>
2. Get 1.4xTC to cover 200-280mm
-
<I>Remember, that just as in a longer normal telephoto lens, the depth of field is less, so, too, is it for the macros.</I>
Sorry, but this is just not right. DoF will be the same for the same object size in the frame, no matter you use 20mm or 200mm.<p>
You will have about 25cm from front lens to object with Sigma, it is mostly usefull for insects and even small animals like frogs but sometimes harmful when shooting wild flowers from the ground. As far As i hear, Sigma is quite soft on long distance... Still no bother to check it myself :)
-
If you love it - why change it? =:) 6Mp and 1.6 crop are still here, after all. If you don't need higher ISO and better AF EOS 10D will be almost the same camera for you.

I own 85/1.8. EF 85/1.8 beats *any* zoom, especially Tokina or Sigma 28-70(80), because long end is their Achilles' heel (I own 28-80/2.8 Tokina too). As far as I can see, it beats 28-70L (which I tested) also, not to mention any canon consumers zoom.<br>
But 28 is another thing. I think not too many people shot at 28mm wide open. If you're happy with f5.6-8, you can try tokina.<br>
BTW, this is pop photo test. Not very scientific, but...<br>http://www.popphoto.com/article.asp?section_id=2&article_id=608

As I understand, you budget is quite limited and recomendation about 100/2.8 USM could be useless. I'd think about Sigma 100/2.8 or old (non-usm) Canon 100/2.8 s/h.
-
I think you can just try a good backpack!<br>
Or at least don't waste your money on consumer zooms, buy some of 24/28/35/50/85/100 primes.<p>
PS I'm solding my 24-85 - even my everyday-walkround-and-birds-for-poor Sigma 50-500 beats it @60-85mm, not to mention difference in build quality :(
-
<i>often poorly lit church ceremonies</i><br>
My Sigma 20/1.8 is clearly soft at 1.8-2.0 but I believe that sometimes soft shot is better than motion blur or camera shake.<br>
PS Canon 20/2.8 costs like *two* Sigmas where I live so I have no choice :)
-
Second-hand Canon D30 (or Fuji S1 Pro)+ s/h Sigma 15-30+s/h 28-105.<br>
Maybe it fits 1000 usd.<br>
Still not very good for landscape.<br>
-
There are only two good ten times zoom - Canon 35-350 and Sigma 50-500 :) Still some people think these are bad lens too...<br>
As far as I understande, you have limited budget. I own Sigma 50-500 and this is quite good lens for sunny days. Almost forgot - 50-500 is 2kg monster...
-
BTW, it looks like Sigma discontinued 400/5.6 and 300/4 lens about month ago. No information about these lens is available on sigma's sites. And now I know the reason why! :)
