  1. I wonder how ibferior an iPhone is to Henri carrier bresson's rangefinder. 8 mp! In an iPhone. Zoom lens would be I

resting what a ansell Adams or bresson would do with an iPhone I just think work like what carlein van der beek is doing

with her iphone onky and her battery of app with major exhibitions of her work all over europe with her image printed hug

on aluminium is groundbreaking and revolutionary work FOR ME. Check out her flickr collection carlein . She gave me

a two hour tutorial in a Starbucks. It was mind blowing!

Btw. I agree digital was huge! I

  2. Here is my latest article on the history of the evolution of photography through the prism of my own personal experiences since the 1940s

    http://lifeinlofi.com/2012/12/24/guest-post-from-box-camera-to-iphoneography/#more-20174

In the Toronto Star Sat. Dec 22 Mia Freeman, curator of the “Faking it” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York said, “The

arrival of the camera phone is the most important development in photography since Kodak.

The article linked above, ” Kodak Brownie to Iphoneography” , traces my evolution as a photographer from my first kodak Brownie in the

1940s to a life long black and white darkroom addict, to hi rez scanning and photoshop, and giclee printing, to Iphonegraphy. I illustrate

by sharing one photo from my early darkroom days, then the same photo scanned and giclee’d and the same image treated with a variety

of Iphone apps on an ipad. Gone are my computer, my cameras ( but for my iphone) my darkroom.

I too, feel the iphone, with the array of accompanying apps is a revolution in art, as dramatic as the first photographs were to oil paintings.

So too, will the iphone evolve out of traditional photography but will be forever changed, as it is, IMHO, a totally new art form. Google

Carlein Van der Beek or go to the iphoneography flickr site. or visit the premier site for iphonegraphers at lifeinlofi.com.

I have just written an article about to be published called " Kodak Brownie to Iphoneography" , tracing my evolution as a photographer from my first kodak Brownie in the 1940s to a life long black and white darkroom addict, to hi rez scanning and photoshop, and giclee printing, to Iphonegraphy. 4. <p>thanks to all who advised me on image size re slide show. I have selected all my capetown to cairo overland backlpacking slides for my lions club show sat n ight. About to resize now for show<br>

1, not sure which is the best option using my image resizer<br>

    if I resize an image of 4.5 mb at 3380 x 2550<br>

I have the option of resizing at 1052 x 768 the resolution of the projector<br>

but it only gives me an image size of 100 - 200 kb. . . is that a sharpeness problem. I just do not seem to get it!<br>

    I have another option of reducing by 50 % and getting a slide of 1690 x 1275 but a file size of 2.25 kb<br>

loading does not seem to matter when I project on my tv<br>

    which is the better choice?</p>

<p>2. also is there a good simple slide sorter out there?</p>

    <p> </p>

  5. <p> i guess i am having trouble woith the math. if i take a 5mb image that is 3888x 2592 and resize it to 1024 x 768<br>

my 5mb suddenly becomes 195 kb! is that not a huge loss in quality? I am best to resize to 1024 x 768 or resize by 50% which give me a larger file size than at 1024 resizing.<br>

I guess i am searching for the optimum quality image while not restricting speed of image change or reloading .<br>

    is a 1024 x 768 image 0f 195 kb good enough?</p>

  6. Totally confused now . If I have an image reading 4.56 mb 3888x 2592. Shot with a canon rebel I want to project to

an audience of 80. With a screen size of about 10' x 10' with a standard hotel digital projector used for conference

sessions . Can I make a good bet and resize 1024x 762? If I di that total goes down to 600 - 700 kb. I am doing

    something wrong!

Time is running out and I am getting up tight about what I should canna alk these images too. I am showing them

    quite fast so I don't l

    Need slow loading problems

  7. <p>I am presenting to the lions club this sat and projecting my images of my backpacking trip from capetown to cairo overland ( i'm 74)and about my kidnapping and cut throat in tanzamia by a somali gang and my escape<br>

but my life or death question now is what is the best image size for my pics.<br>

Right now they are about 4.56 MB 3888 x 2592 what should i resize them ? is it necessary?<br>

also i have a few in web size i sent on route at 46kb but orignials were stolen are they projectable on a public screenscreen 9' x 9'?<br>

(If you want to read my toronto star story just google "I'm 74 and I backpacked across africa" it will pop up on dozens of sites. Email me if you wan t the kidnappinhg story)</p>

  8. <p>I have been using f8 as the sharpest f stop on my canon 12-135 lens on a canon xti 10mp<br>

I am wondering if the there is an optimum focal lenght to select (when all other things ale not rele)v<br>

Can i set my manual at f8 and focal lenght at 55m or whatever?<br>

ie is there an optium sharpnes ( focal lenght and f stop )for a digital blowup in a canon 18 -135 zoom lens ?<br>

I have always believed f8 was the sharpest on any camera but I would lovwe to hear if this is not true</p>

  9. <p>I am experimenting with photo transfers . I print 11x17 portions of a 55 x 34 inch upsized image, reverse the image and glue to a white board with gold leaf ansd then wet the paper and remove all of it by ruibbing tilll all the ink is now on the gold showing thrui in light spots., however I am having truble getting the rrich coilor of the original prints I jigsaw on to the board.<br>

does anyone know of the best glue to use to put the print on fce down? <br>

any process suggestions for this experiment>?<br>

  10. <p>I am trying to process and print for a show with large 4'x 3' images both bw and color. I have been out of the loop with an illness for some time and searches for tests seem dated-- like me. (eg ron bigelow and here).<br>

I am using raw 10mp images from a canon xti and using photoshop 5 extended.<br>

    question:<br>

    1. in ps 5 is bicubic smoother a recommended process or is there a clearly better process or plugin?<br>

    2. is the builtin sharpening in ps best or is photokit sharpener still a recommended three step process for sharpeninbg<br>

    3. I had a sign store in a small town nearby print a 50" and 36" bw image for me as per a sign (50$) and I am impressed with the trial. Is there a preferred print system for images of this size?<br>

    Jerry in toronto</p>

  11. <p>I have been a WAY A LONG TIME AND am consodering buying ps cs4 extended. I notice a lot of new option in the sharpening filter section. DO the three steps of pixelgious sharpening all still are superior to photoshop. <br>

for gereneral image sharing on the net can i just use the ps features? Did do a search but came up with older stuff<br>

in short what is the best sparpening features available either within ps or in photokit or other comercial produt adddon?</p>

  12. <p> have been away a while and a search of the archives on upsizing is quite old except for a suggestion for viaginatpr 6.oh. . . . I last found advice suggesting using my PSCS2 and in image size, select bicubic smoother for upsizing to my preferrd 13x19 and bicubic sharper-for down sizing for the web. I had purchased a few addon but settld on PS bicubic smoother is there a new magic addon or program I should consider?</p>
  13. thanks charles but I am really referring to a sytemn of taking all the ink off the photo and putting just the ink on the masonite not the paper as well Iron on photo transfer is the type I have tried as in tea shirt but i am looking to do a serious piece of multimedia art work of some size . I gatehr from the previous post there is a water method as well but I see from the website is is only for 8.5 x 11 and I a looking for at least 13 x 19

    thanks
