Yes, they are excellent for filling in engraving where the paint has either worn away or is faded. Don't forget to clean out all
of the old paint first, I use a wooden cocktail stick for this. I have used them on both lenses and top plate engravings in the
past.

Here is another thread with information on John Milich's adapter which allows the use of a
much smaller 49mm filter.

BTW
Leica also recommend using their own [Not B&W or Heliopan] UV/ir filters on all lenses up to and including the 35mm focal length on the M8, so as to provide the optimal in camera corrections when UV/ir recognition set to on.

Hello Gary,
You would be much better off buying, and using John Milich's specially designed and machined filter holder for the 16/18/21 Tri- Elmar, which also allows you to carry on using the original lens hood.
See this thread on the Leica User Forum :

As far as i can remember when you register your M8 here :
http://m8registration.leica-camera.com/snr_uk.php
you will also be able to pick two filters.
-
So long as you had paid in full for your M8 before the 31st December 2006 you will
receive the letter direct from Leica Solms with the offer of any of the current M lenses at a
discount of 30%. You have to register the camera here :
http://m8registration.leica-camera.com/snr_en.php
where you will also be able to claim your two free UV/IR blocking filters.
To be able to use the lens offer you have to fill in the order form that you will receive from
Solms, after registration, and, provide the original invoice or receipt from an authorised
Leica Dealer and the original credit payment slip or other forms of original record of
payment, and then return all of the above to Leica in Solms using the return envelope that
came with the paperwork.
You will then receive another letter along with your returned paperwork/receipts telling
you when to expect to have to pay and delivery of the ordered lens.
BUT Don't forget that you have to have paid in full for your M8 BEFORE Dec 31st 2006

I am using a Domke J803 with the three compartment insert.
You can fit an M and five lenses, or two M's and four lenses using rear lens caps glued together for back to back lenses in the same compartment. This leaves the front two pockets for accessories and the rear compartment for magazines/papers. Another advantage of this bag is that the shoulder strap unclips and is replaceable with one of the Optech Pro bag straps, or any other strap you might care to use.

Yes, that is normal for the R-D1.

Thank you for your advice Erik.
I was not looking at the Konica Minolta Scanners as Konica Minolta have just pulled out of
the photo business, as you know.
I suppose that this should also rule out the Polaroid SS120 too, which thinking logically it
will.
Having looked at your web site and the info on the Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro, it does
indeed look like a great machine, however it is around 1800 UKP or almost $3200 for a
new one, and on many sites here in the UK it is listed as discontinued and the last one on
E-bay UK went for over 1000 UKP or almost $1800.
I have just seen one go on E-bay US for $750 but that was just for the actual scanner
itself, nothing else, not even the power cord.
I guess that i will keep on looking until i find something that takes my fancy at the right
price here in the UK.
Cheers

Or ................
Would i be better off getting a Nikon LS 5000 ED 35mm only scanner?
Cheers
Eric

I have found a used, boxed Nikon Coolscan 8000 in apparently mint
condition, that i can get for around 800 UKP from a local dealer
here in the UK.
I have also been offered a Polaroid Sprintscan 120, that has just
come back from Polaroid after a full service, for 600 UKP, this one
belongs to a friend of mine.
I will be mainly using it for 35mm negatives, the odd slide and maybe
some Xpan negatives .
Does anyone have experience with either or preferably both of the
above and a preference for either with regards to scan quality, ease
of use of the film holders etc?
Cheers

Yes, Leica M6ttl black paint, commonly known as the Millenium.

Voigtlander 12mm Ultra Wide Heliar.

From Liverpool,
May be able to make it, circumstances permitting.

I have the hood, i bought it when i had the 17-40.
I now have the 16-35 and have tried to fit it on, however it was very tight and i did not want to try and force it.
I may give it another go and then can advise you whether there is any vignetting with the 1D MkII.

I have had a G1227LVL for about a month, it is very easy and fast to level, which is the whole point of it really.
The fit and finish is excellent as is the idea of building the gimbal into the top of the legs.
In use the tripod appears to be as rigid as the standard G1227 when all locked down so if you need the levelling feature on a 2 Series tripod then this is the way to go, in fact it is the only way you can go for levellling with a 2 Series.
However, after trying a friends G1325, i have decided to get one of those along with the levelling base the same as the previous poster. I chose the G1325 with G1321 over the G1227LVL because i could have two tripods in one. In other words i could have just the standard G1325 with no levelling and just a plain top plate or remove that and fit the G1321 and have levelling.
Hope this is of some help.
Eric.
