Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 532/16
Andrew in Austin replied to the celt 2's topic in Classic Manual Film Cameras
I came to the realization many years ago that a well-designed medium format folder is be capable of producing images that rival those from a TLR. The Super Ikonta prior to 1953 was a tour de force of German engineering and manufacturing. -

That's a lovely post war example with a coated Tessar. In addition to the build and heft of a Mercedes-Benz S Class, the ZI 532/16 is capable of producing images that rival those made with a Rolleiflex. -

MJ - The day after that exposure was made, I saw more film cameras being used on the streets of New Orleans than I've seen in Austin in an entire year. -

I like the Hill Country images. Here are couple from last month, testing a 35mm folder. Also, from a St. Patrick's Day parade in New Orleans. First use of a Kodak AG Retina IIa -

Nice shot of the river boats on the Amazon. Also, liked the shot of US 441 looking down from Newfound Gap - in addition to the fog on the country road somewhere between Pheba and Cedarbluff. -

I took that photo sometime in March of 2010. They were the last of the riverboat steamers as opposed to modern diesels. In above photo the two were tied up in Algiers near the Bollinger drydock - with their calliopes eerily silent. -

Silverfast vs Espon vs Vuescan
Andrew in Austin replied to chuck_foreman1's topic in Classic Manual Film Cameras
Glen_h - Does the LS-1000 use a Firewire 400 cable? For my LS-4000 to a 2012 iMac, I'm using 1 each Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 cable, which connects to a Firewire 800 to 400 cable. Vuescan seems to get the job done. So, no complaints there. -

Last month I acquired a like-new Retina II. Better yet a new film scanner. Tri-X Semi-Stand Rodinal 1:100 -
You should be able to swap the lens into the Prontor shutter. The front standard which holds the shutter is the same for both the Record III with a Compur and Record II with a Prontor. P.S. don't give up on the Compur. Once you have the lens removed - soak it and run it a small container of Naptha, a.k.a. Rosinol. This is my favorite video. Although for an older and smaller sized shutter, it clearly shows the operation of the slow speed escapement - referred to as the retard gears in the video. Usually, fingers crossed, there is no need to remove the cocking ring as shown in the video. After cleaning and drying the shutter, place a tiny amount of watch oil on each pivot point for the escapement gears. Pure Silicone Watch Oil, 100 (CS) Centistokes, 4ml A sewing needle can be used in place of a dip oiler to apply tiny amounts of oil to the pivot points. Again, let me emphasize - with fingers crossed - you don't usually need to fully disassemble the shutter.

For my walk about, lunch break photography - I eventually migrated from compact fixed-lens Olympus 35mm rangefinders to a Retina II and a IIa. On the the plus side, both are no nonsense, pocketable, 35mm cameras with excellent lenses. That said, my recommendation is for the OP is to get a feel for 35mm RF shooting with a Canonet QL17 - provided he or she uses a Kanto MR-9 battery adapter. SALE Battery Adapter My path to Retinas for walkabout 35mm photography was predated by my use and appreciatation of medium format folders.
