I shot this with my new Sigma 70-300m F4-5.6 APO DG Macro lens. I shot
the photo through my kitchen window so I could get close to the bird.
That's when the macro capability of the lens same into play.

I love the position of the bird and the sparkle in its eye. The soft colors are wonderful.

Remembering Summer

This really is my dream of a photo I would like to take. I have
taken dozens of photos of hummingbird but have yet to capture one at
a flower, just at my hummingbird feeder. To get this photo I used
Photoshop to combine one of my hummingbird photos with one of my
flower photos. What do you think?
-
This is the third in a series of hummingbird photos I am unloading
today. The 'spotlight' behind the bird is actually a bright spot in
the woods behind the bird.

This is the second of three hummingbird photos I am uploading today.

Here another view of my Paphiopedilum Recovery (Paph. sukhakulii x
Paph. philippinense). It's among the two dozen slipper orchids I
have in my orchid collection and it's one my favorites. The flower
is lit by an umbrella light. The lighting is very soft but does
provide slight shadows to give the flower some depth. The background
was a black poster board. How the flower got such an odd
name 'Recovery' is not known to me. The breeder of an orchid cross
gets to register a name for the cross with orchid authorities.

This is another orchid from my collection and it is the smallest
that I own. Its flowers are smaller than a penny and the entire
plant grows in a 2-inch pot. It was a challenge to photo. What do
you think?
-
It detracts from the photo, in my opinion.
-
Try posting a smaller photo next time. On my monitor I had to scroll to see all of it. Still, it's a sensitive portrait.

From my orchid collection. Photoshop gradient for background.

I like the lines of directions created by the stairs. I draws the viewer into the photo. -- Regards, Terrence.

I think the flower pot and bit of bicycle that you cropped out adds something to the photo. Thanks, though, for offering your thoughts. -- Terrence

It's looks like hybrid call Big Mac, which is Oncidium maculatum crossed with Oncidium hallii and is part of the cymbidium group. It likes a slight drying between waterings, which is what probably prompted it to bloom. You left on vacation and it dried out. The photo is an excellent presentation. The diagonal composition provide some tension. Good job. Thanks for looking at my slipper orchid photo. If you want to see some more of slipper orchid photos click here to visit my web. I have done a lot of experimentation with Photoshop gradient backgrounds. -- Terrence

It is cropped closely but I like the placement of the flowers as they are shown. If I had included all the top petal I think that would have thrown off the composition. -- Terrence

This is one of my paphiopedilum slipper orchids that recently
bloomed. I have use a gradient for the background. What do you think?

One of the mini-cattleyas in my orchid collection.

Walter: Your title gave me my first chuckle of the day. A seven for orginality of the title. Fun image, too. Regards, Terrence.

I am still experimenting with gradient fills for orchid photos. Any
opinions?
Female Cardinal Close-Up
in Nature
Posted
Here's another cardinal close-up I shot with my new Sigma 70-300m
F4-5.6 APO DG Macro lens. This time it's a female. I shot the photo
through my kitchen window so I could get close to the bird. You can
see a sunflower seed shell falling from her mouth. I love the macro
capability of this lens. A normal telephoto would not have allowed me
to get this close.
