  1. Here's another cardinal close-up I shot with my new Sigma 70-300m

F4-5.6 APO DG Macro lens. This time it's a female. I shot the photo

through my kitchen window so I could get close to the bird. You can

see a sunflower seed shell falling from her mouth. I love the macro

capability of this lens. A normal telephoto would not have allowed me

    to get this close.

That's when the macro capability of the lens same into play.

    Hummingbird Dream

This really is my dream of a photo I would like to take. I have

taken dozens of photos of hummingbird but have yet to capture one at

a flower, just at my hummingbird feeder. To get this photo I used

Photoshop to combine one of my hummingbird photos with one of my

flower photos. What do you think?

  3. Here another view of my Paphiopedilum Recovery (Paph. sukhakulii x

Paph. philippinense). It's among the two dozen slipper orchids I

have in my orchid collection and it's one my favorites. The flower

is lit by an umbrella light. The lighting is very soft but does

provide slight shadows to give the flower some depth. The background

was a black poster board. How the flower got such an odd

name 'Recovery' is not known to me. The breeder of an orchid cross

gets to register a name for the cross with orchid authorities.

    Sophronitis Cernua

This is another orchid from my collection and it is the smallest

that I own. Its flowers are smaller than a penny and the entire

plant grows in a 2-inch pot. It was a challenge to photo. What do

    you think?

  4. It's looks like hybrid call Big Mac, which is Oncidium maculatum crossed with Oncidium hallii and is part of the cymbidium group. It likes a slight drying between waterings, which is what probably prompted it to bloom. You left on vacation and it dried out. The photo is an excellent presentation. The diagonal composition provide some tension. Good job. Thanks for looking at my slipper orchid photo. If you want to see some more of slipper orchid photos click here to visit my web. I have done a lot of experimentation with Photoshop gradient backgrounds. -- Terrence
