  1. Howard, well said. This is a beautiful image, very painterly. The textures are wonderful and I

can only imagine that directional light or extra saturation would ruin it. Yay for breaking the

    rules.

Hi Glenn, my intent was definitely a simple, sparse image that focused on lighting and contours, and I really wanted the model smack dab in the middle (I built the lighting around that idea). My original vision for the shoot is captured in "Focus" (I just posted it), which is even more centered and symmetrical, but I had the model let her hair down and she turned and that really brought out her facial features in a different way, so I ran with it. I think I prefer this one.

    Thanks!

Critiques/comments requested... this shot was my intent with this shoot, a very simple,

symmetrical image that focuses on lighting and the model's face.

(this may be a little washed out on Macs due to color profiles, apologies)

    Thanks,

    Jeremey.

Critiques/comments requested... and apologies to Mac users, I'm guessing photo.net strips

color profiles, so this may appear a little washed out.

    Thanks,

    Jeremey.

As requested... this was 1/250 at f/4.5. Lighting setup was fairly simple... she's looking directly at the key light, a 20-degree grid, and the fill light is to camera left, shot through an umbrella that's just out of the frame.

Comments/suggestions appreciated, especially regarding contrast and the darkness of the

background. I really debated drawing the background out a bit and showing the green

underneath the flowers vs. drawing the flowers out on a near-black background (as you

see here). IMO this is more interesting because you can get the sense that the flowers are

really falling like snowflakes, but I would love to hear what others think. Thanks.

Thanks. I've tried various crops and I've gone back and forth on the inclusion of the foreground. My reason for including it was that it helps lead the viewer into the scene, but I much prefer the tones in the top half of the photo.
  2. I like the crop! That bush in the foreground was the most frustrating part of this angle. I think it works a little better in the vertical shot where it's in deep shadow. I'll experiment with cloning it out of that one for fun. One thing the crop loses is the open feel of all that water in the foreground, which I like too. I think I'll go back to the original and crop it and see how I like the print. Thanks for the input and sample image!

Beautiful sky. You might crop this some (mostly to remove the stuff in the foreground). I like this better if I just see the top of the line of trees.
  3. I like this photo, but the two signs and the person stand out very blue against the rest of the photo, and IMO that detracts from the photo's interest. I'd be curious to see this in black & white. If the blues or those sections have been enhanced, I'd suggest posting the photo without the enhancements. In any case, I like the different textures and the composition.
