Well, I just ruled out the batteries. I put in a set of freshly charged Ni-cads. With no film in the camera I just started firing the shutter. Somewhere around the 15th shot, I could hear the advance motor bog down. It continues to do this every 10-30 shots. Of course with no film in, I don't think it will ever give an error code.
I may have a problem with the motor?? Does anyone have a Nikon web site where I can e-mail a repair tech?
Thanks

Well, I had been using AA lithiums. I just found the papers for the grip and sure enough they just mention the CR123A lithiums--with the special adapter of course!
It did list the good old fashion Ni-Cads.
Now what is the major difference in the electrical characteristics of Ni-Cads and Ni-Mh?? And I wonder why the CR123A is listed but not the AA size lithium. You would think that both being lithium they would deliver about the same punch. I'm assuming the difference is in the current supplying capability??? Anybody know?
I've got a set of Ni-cads on the charger now. I'll try them as soon as they get charged and let everybody know.
Thanks for the responses.

Jonathan, did yours stop altogether?
Mine will continue to shoot the next frame as though nothing was wrong. Except for the one time it got the 'ERR'.
Thanks

I had to send my SB-28 in a couple of years ago. They sent the same unit back within two weeks. As a matter of fact, they didn't get it fixed the first time, so I sent it back the second time. Same thing, it was back in about two weeks.

I have the MB-10 grip on my 90S. New batteries are in the unit.
I just ran 8 rolls of film through it. At least once per roll, when
advancing the film, it would sound as though the film was having
problems advancing. Like weak batteries. The motor groan as if it was
being loaded down.
It only happens once, maybe twice per roll.
On one occasion it locked the shutter with 'ERR' flashing in the
display. I had to turn the camera off then right back on again and it
continued to work OK. I don't have the film back yet, so I don't know
if it actually did only half advance the frame. I had it set on Low
speed advance mode. New Lihium batteries in the grip.
This morning I took an old roll of film and ran it thru 8 or 10
times. This time I was using a freshly charged set of Ni-MH
batteries. Same problem. Got it to hang once and it lagged down
multiple times.
Has anyone had this problem before?

N90S advance problem

Thanks Mark. I thought I remembered reading that sometime in the past.
I would like to ask one of you kind souls out there if you wouldn't mind doing what I just did yesterday and see what you can hear.
That is, if you don't have any film in your N90S, would you please depress the shutter on both Low speed and High speed advance and see if your motor sorta 'bogs' or 'lugs' down. I set mine on manual at about 1/250 sec, but it also does it at other shutter speeds, so I don't think that matters. Oh, and let me know what kind of batteries your using.
Thanks all.
