  1. I went from an EOS 3 to a 10D to a 5D. I liked the 10D very much and took some wonderful photos with it, but I never felt comfortable with it. Kind of like wearing someone else's shoes.

The 5D was what I was looking for in a digital camera, close in performance and feel to the EOS 3. And the image quality is superb.

I guess it is a personal thing. I could never go back to a cropped camera. I've even started using my 3 again and enjoying it more.

If you're happy with the 30D, that is all that matters.

  2. I have an Olympus C-4040 (predecesor to the C-5050), and I've just bought a Canon 10D. I love the Olympus and will still use it a lot. It takes super pictures and has a very fast lens (1.8), faster than the C-5050, I think. I think the C-5050 is also a good camera and that you will enjoy it. BTW, I'm a lifelong fan of Canon and I currently own 2 Canon SLR film cameras, the 10D, and 2 Canon video cameras.

For travel, family gatherings, etc., the Oly will be great. I took my Oly and my EOS3 on vacation to Spain and took photos 3 to 1 digital over film.

Send me an email if you want to see some of the C-4040 shots.

  3. I hope don't get pounded for this, but.....

If you are not in the business to take and sell these photos, why not just use "high quality" jpeg and enjoy your pictures of the GP. Unless you want to rework them or print poster sized prints, will it matter to you? You should be able to get a couple of hundred pics on a 512mb cflash.

  4. That's another point for you, Isaac. I found a good, used 550EX, and it is like magic.

There is so much to do and try with the EOS 3......but it works so well when left to "do its thing". The sheer speed of the 3 was shocking after using the Elan (which I still think is an excellent camera).

What do you guys think about a good macro lens? How about the 100 f2.8?

  5. Thanks to Issac Sibson and "Puppy Face" for helping me with my EOS3

Auto Focus question back in October.

I took their advice on lenses and got a 70-200 F4L for the EOS 3.

WOW! Photograph is now a whole new experience for me. The camera and

lens combo is joy to use

Thanks guys. Now, is there a good source for the discountinued 300

    F4L?

Best wishes to all for a Happy Holiday season.

  6. Thanks much for the quick answers and great information. I thought the lens speed was the issue, and I was sure I could get the straight scoop here.

The EOS 3 does work very, very well with the 24-85 3.5-4.5 USM, so I'm sure it will be great with a faster lens. Too bad, these are convenient lenses for sightseeing trips.

Guess I'll have to put the 70-200 F4L back on my Christmas list.

    Best wishes.

  7. I have a new EOS 3 and an ELAN IIE I've used for years. Using the

USM 28-200 EF lens on the 3, I cannot get Auto Focus to work at

anything beyond 70 mm focal length. Manually selected point nor full

    selection.

Same lens, same light, same distance, same subject with the ELAN AF

works perfectly. Do I have a defect, or am I missing the point on

    something?
