Thanks Sergio, I am going to try out what you've told me. I am presuming that you keep reheating the silica gel packets coz they become saturated after a while? Is it safe to just microwave them when that happens?

I live in Mumbai, a city thats extremely humid and has moisture in
the air all the time. Thanks to that, I have had my lenses get
attacked by fungus twice by now. Once Ive gotten it cleaned, this
time I am determined to build or buy a safe cupboard or box for
them.
I have about four lenses and two cameras, so I dont need a very big
cupboard, if I can fit in my negatives in it too it would be great.
I want suggestions on what kind of material is good for storage,
wood or metal or something else to prevent moisture to seep in. I
may not be able to buy a dehumidifier for a while, coz its a bit
beyond my budget right now. I need low cost options. I have heard
that fitting a zero watt bulb inside your cupboard protects camera
equipment from catching fungus. Is that true?
Any suggestions would be welcome.

I have a problem with the software that came with my Nikon D70, the
Picture Project. See, I import RAW files once to see them, and then
import another batch of Raw files. For some reason the earlier batch
of Raw files vanishes when I get in more pictures into the "all
Pictures" folder. So I try to bring them in again, that is import
them again coz I cant view the Raw files together in any other
programme - it does not get imported , the software just says that
these set of files have already been imported, and ends there, it
does not even ask if it should import it again. so these set of
files, i just cant view on picture project again. even when i put
all the raw files into labelled folders on picture project, the
folder will remain but the pictures would just vanish, there would
be blank thumbnails there instead. this is really a huge problem, i
need to keep viewing the pictures i shoot on Raw, and I cant, unless
i view them one by one on photoshop which takes a lot of time. if
anyone has figured out a solution please let me know.

I have decided upon buying a Nikon D70 with a 500 MB card. I am
considering buying a backup card ( mebbe 1GB) and/or a portable hard
disk. My net search brought me to Iomega HDD 40 GB USB 2.0. CAn
someone tell me if this will be "compatible" with the D70. ANy other
suggestions relating to portable storage are of course welcome. My
budget is around $200 for the backup stoarge device.

thanks so much all of you! i really feel that for a photographer time and opportunity is greater than anything else, and when that is lost, not much is left ! with the nikon coolpix 4500 i take altleast 300 pics in a day sometimes, and when i have my ols N 80 film camera i am so lazy to shoot, i just feel the D70 would be worth it for just that - for all the extra work that i will do with a digital , that i would not with a film camera, kinda sad, but true!

hi! i have had two nikon N80s for more than three years now, i feel i
need a digital camera now coz i just feel i will do more work if i
have a digital, film cams make me too lazy.. my rolls keep lying
around after i shoot them!
i have enough money to buy a D70, if i want a D100 i might have to
wait some time, please tell me if i should wait or just buy the D70
right now?the only thing that worried me about the D70 was that it
dint have a vertical grip and that i cant attach a battery pack to
it. i am a professional and might need to shoot for hours sometimes,
can i depend on a D70? i am obviously just baginning my career.
pls give me some feedback. i also want to know that with the D70, 6
mega pixel, what is the biggest size print i can get? can u shoot
say, billboard pics with it?

Sergio, Vandit, and all the others, thanks so much for the responses. The air tight container with the silica gel sounds like the best idea.
Sergio, I have gotten lenses cleaned by a professional and saw the fungus come back in less than a month, Mumbai is just as humid as it gets. All electronic items, computers, fridges, music systems, have a short life in this city.
