  1. Nice image!  I think you certainly should have used the maximum rise possible on that lens in this situation.  That tall building is what it's for.  Even though you nearly got all the verticals straight, the image is still quite distorted.

  2. Yes, Taylor, I certainly agree.  These animals are very skitterish.  I'm out there with a fixed focal length lens (probably a 500 f4) and there is a split second window to capture these darling little creatures without a million things in the way.  I'm in a stopped vehicle, and this is the framing that I had.  There was no way to move back or zoom out.  This was the most outstanding opportunity with the dikdik I had in over two weeks of shooting there.

Sorry, but I find these extreme setup types of images uncomfortably unnatural and annoying. My favorite phrase applies here, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should". Note, this is my own opinion and may not jive with the many people in the world who consider this art or make a living from it.

On a photo safari in 2008, I had the chance to visit a few Massai villages. This beautiful

boy rushed over and grabbed one of his prized possessions to show me. After all the

incredible wildlife I saw, this moment has permanently imprinted in my memory. I never got

his name, so to me he will always be Goatboy.
