Great image and I like it a lot. Congratulations.

It does however start to beg the question should there be two categories for POW: a) Photo, and b) 'Image' - where 'a' highlights the image as captured in the camera (digital or film) and 'b' showcases what can be done with a captured image with some advanced post processing.

I'm with Kelly. Initial impression was that this could be a great photo but once I looked closer I too realized that I didn't like it.

The shadows in the lower left, the composition in general, the brown gnarled area on the trunks of the trees chosen to photograph. Sorry, I simply feel that it's just not a very strong photograph.

  1. Nothing against you or your photo William but your statement 'shoorting at 6 frames per second' just made me think.

I am obviously aware of the fact that cameras in PJ/action photography often take 10fps or so but it still made me think about the 'artistic efforts' in such a photo.

What is really the difference in taking 6frames per second of an event that happens over a few seconds (such as this photo) vs. simply videotaping the event and then later freeze the momement you like and print/submit it. In the years to come 'frozen' frames like that may well be of a quality high enough to be able to pose as a still photo.

I like the photo it's very nice and I can accept that it's the 'final result' that matters' - but... personally I think these cameras reduces the value of the image FOR ME knowing how they were captured.

Technically it's nice but the image does nothing for me.

Been a bit of a slump lately when it comes to POW photos... the dog with the blue eye, last week museum photo and now this one are all photos that didnt do anything for me and honestly didnt made me want to know anything more about them.

Haven't read through the many posts above (I don't have the time) but I am not that impressed by this photo I'm sorry to say.

It seems over-sharpened (I don't actually care if it is or not - it just appears that way when I opened it up on screen) and I'm also not too crazy about the blue coloring (over the eye lashes even).

I'd also like a bit more space infront of the nose.

Very nice. I personally would have liked some more space around the man and violinst or atleast some more to the right. As it is it is a bit too centered for my taste.

    Well done and congrats.

It's a nice photo but personally it doesn't 'do it' for me.

    a) It's too unsharp,

    b) The feet are too low in the fram,

    c) There is no real subject,

    d) The blue line coming down directly into one of the boy's head is distracting

I think it's more of an oportunity lost than a great photo.

Your portfolio holds much better photos than this one.

I liked it in November and I like it today.

    Great photo with wonderful mood.

The blur on the left arm IS somewhat apparent but still a wonderful image!

Congratulations on a well deserved POW!

  2. How you see art is ofcourse extemely subjective. Personally I don't care much for this photo. I don't dislike it - I simply don't like it a lot as I find it uninteresting, static and fairly bland.

Then again, that is once again only my own opinion.

It's a nice image but I honestly don't feel anything when I see it. It just comes across, to me, as a common snapshot of someone that flashes the 'v'-sign when noticing that his photo is being taken.

Well, gotta go to work...Hmm.. "Why? Why me? Why this?" ;-)

Great to have updated guidelines for the forum relating to photo of the week.I would however love to see the guidelines for how photo of the week is SELECTED and who are behind making those choices.

Moderator edit regarding POW choices. To Richard: As stated in the About Section - you are welcome to give "feedback" which the owners of the site are more than happy to read and respond to. However, that feedback belongs in e-mail or in another thread. Thank you.
