  1. Hi Randall,

Don't be afraid of Photoshop especialy if you only wnat to ehnance your photos. Assuming your photograph are goog from the start, there is little to do with photoshop. "Good pictures=littlephotoshop". Get the latest copy of Photoshop (CS) if you plan to buy the D2X so if you shoot in RAW format you will be able to open them with an update of Camera Raw in the future.

Make sure to calibrate your monitor and learn how to set your "color settings" and buy a good book on photoshop. There are plenty of it but anything by Bruce Fraser(Real world series), Scott Kelby or look also for Adobe's books "Classroom in a book".

By the way most of us use about maybe 10% of photoshop capabilities.

    Good luck.

  2. Hi John,

This one of many ways to apply usm and it isn't a bad way.Do some test with different tools ( photoshop usm, photokit sharpener, intellisharpen etc...) and different recipes. It's up to your eyes. Doing usm in the lightness channel prevent color shifting in the edges where more than one color overlap. Hope this help. I can do better explaining in french but this is the best photo website i know so i will improve my english.

    My 2 cents.

  3. Hi.

You should buy a good book on Photoshop and learn basic's technics like levels, curves and unsharp mask. You'll be surprised with the difference it will make on your pictures. Most digital pictures needs a little tweakin in an image editor.

After that, maybe you'll keep the rebel afterall.

By the way, you should avoid auto-contrast and auto- color before knowing exactly what thes tools are doing to your pictures.

    regards

    Yves
