Your camera should have a white balance setting That might help you lose the color cast here. Plus, it could be a little lighter (Levels in Photoshop) Try to get the puck in frame, it makes a better shot, and you might crop to the players some more as well. As far as the low light, you can spend more and get a larger aperture lens...Is you camera AF able to pickup the action enough for you to shoot when you want? That is a problem with the Canon "prosumer" line (D30, D60).
It looks pretty good though.

Look Ma! no hand!

What do you guys think? In advance, the young man on the left has
everything I have of him included. I think his "bisection" doesn't
mar the photo too badly, and I like the sense of motion here, almost
a whirlpool (kind of anyway) I think it pulls the viewer in.
What are your thoughts?

The final print of the shot cropped #13 and the mystery hand completely from the picture. Which made the whole thing a little stronger. I seem to lean towards extra details on the edges. I am weaning myself of that habit...

If I had it in frame I would have included it...

This shot was taken on Saturday Oct. 19 at St. Marys High School for
publication in a Berkeley daily newspaper. I'd like to hear what
people think of it! Thanks in advance for taking the time!

I think if you were trying to capture the "baseball" aspect of this field, you might have looked at a different perspective then you have in the photo here. This doesn't say baseball at all to me (and I am a big fan) You should have shot during a game or perhaps in towards the diamond or out from the plate. This perspective says "Desolate" to me and the flag (given the current climate in Israel) can only draw a response in terms of the chaos over there, because it is presented in a vacuum. You need some other element of the game to convey this is about baseball somehow, I would get some people involved (optimally smiling) because of the subtext of the Israeli flag right now. (just my two cents)
It is a powerful photo for what it is worth...

This screams montage to me. it is extraordinarily well executed and is a beautiful finished piece, but the lighting doesn't match, and the reflections don't seem like they would fall this way in real life (the exterior reflections conveniently falling off where the woman and her spot light are). I don't buy this is a real shot, if it is I would like to see some other shots from the same session, showing me the same subjects, but not so perfectly montaged, Then I would believe it. Photoshop has been around a LONG time, and there are people that are this good. Again, beautiful shot, but I don't think it is a "camera" creation.

This is one of the better baseball photos I have taken (IMHO) Please
let me know what you think of it!
Thanks in advance,

I am getting started, and I would like to know what people think.
The aperture on my lens is not the best for night work (but it is
the best I can do right now)
I have a couple of shots that were acceptable from this game, this
is one. Thanks for your time!

Football: A Kennedy RB Running for his life

Brian,
I use 800 when I shoot sports, generally, I found 400 wasn't as crisp as I liked (mostly baseball however, I will give it a shot for FB). As to aperture it was auto setting aperture and exposure (this was fairly early on) I will keep your recommendations in mind next season. That lens is gone, replaced with bigger glass, so I will definitely experiment. Thanks for the cropping suggestion as well. My only thought on that is that without the other kids on the left in frame, it doesn't seem to have as much movement.
