  1. This may have been covered already but I have not found it. When I make a comment on someone else's image even if it is just one comment, I get email notifications in my email box every time anyone makes a comment on that particular image. Is there a way to stop this?

And on the other side of things, I am not getting notified when somebody makes a comment on my own images.

I would much rather be notified about comments on my own images than those on other peoples. Is there a way to fix that?

  2. I continue to have issues with navigation on the site. It has been several weeks since I posted an image. I have tried again today.

First let me say that when I look at an image on the site that someone else has posted and I want to go back to the same page I was looking at, I am sent to a different page and it is hard to get back to the original page I was looking at. This needs to be changed immediately. Navigating through the site needs to be intuitive. It was in the old site and it needs to be in the current site.

If you click on the back arrow, you should wind up where you were previously. That simple.

And I am still unable to enter my camera data when I am uploading an image. Will this be fixed? Seems important!

  3. I also tried to do this; have a conversation with a member, looking them up by using a post they had done in the past, and sending a message. It appears to have been sent successfully but I don't know if they got it. How do we know if it was sent successfully. If they reply where do we find there reply? In the past everything went through email via the old site. It seemed to always work in the past. Why can't we make it work that way now? It preserves privacy in a much better way. I feel as if I lost my lifeline to other members I have known for a long time. I think this is an important attribute for this site.
  4. <p>I've been shooting with the Sigma 150 to 600 contemporary which weighs about 4 1/2 pounds. Almost all of the images of birds on the photo.net site that I have posted in the last month were taken with that lens. For the most part is extremely sharp except wide open at F6 .3 at 600 mm. If you shooting at F7 .1 or greater, you won't notice much difference in sharpness above 550 mm. It is extremely easy to handhold at 600 mm. The VR is very good. I use mine with a Nikon D750. Because the lens goes from F 4.5 to 6.3, one needs to be sure that they can shoot at mid range iso without noise issues. I don't seem to have any issues with my D 750. A nice aspect of this lens is the ability to change the firmware and customize it to your camera. I picked up mine for under $1000 and it easily comes close to 95% the quality of a $10,000 600 mm prime.</p>
  5. <p>It appears the FAQ on posting has not been updated for years, i.e. : 800 X 600 pixel size suggestion and 1 K limit on file size.<br>

I have just started posting again and see others posting with "click here to see larger". While I have seen this discussed, I still don't know the new limits and the "How to do this (posting larger images)". Can you please explain? Thanks.</p>

  6. I realize this has been covered before but not for a while: When I convert my

images from tif to jpeg for display on PN, the colours just lose life. I look

at my lively tif images, then look at the somewhat drab jpeg conversions and I

must agree perhaps I deserve those 3/3s I'm getting. Is there a better way to

make the fat pixel sing as a jpeg and bring life to my images on PN?

  7. Very simply, if you post on PN and you want feedback, higher position in TRP has a greater chance of providing more feedback, unless, of course, your subject is nude, which almost always guarantees feedback no matter hoow good or bad. Most people will only surf through a certain number of images before their attention span leads them to something else. My own experience leads me to believe I get the most feedback if one of my images is in the top 100. I don't sell, therefore I don't care about the sales aspect. I do value constructive criticism because I am still learning what the majority of PN viewers like.
  8. David McCracken: statistics don't lie and you clearly don't need to make the point. This thread exists because bad nudes dominate the top TRP, not bad children, birds, insects, sunsets, cats, dogs, flowers, etc. This was not always the case on PN. Neither was 3/3. Neither was mate rating, robots, fake accounts, etc. At one point in time, there were quality images and some level of honesty (at least it appeared so to me). As the site has grown, viewers have learned devious ways to play the ratings game to achieve their own means. Too bad. But I suppose that's the way of the world. A sad cooment on society. Perhaps an overgeneralization but it still rings true. Once again, I would prefer a system that offers fairness and balance along with quality. AND I want to be clear, I enjoy looking at well crafted nude images as much as anyone else. If the top 20 images were well crafted and deserved to be there, I would have less of an argument. Look at the past. Look at Emil Schmidt and other nudes who previously had places in the top 20 TRP. How can you compare 2 out of focus boobs to those images? David, you provided a lot of humour in your own images; too bad there wasn't a humour category at the time before Brian censored you! Yes, things have changed, but can you say honestly, they are better?
  9. David Mc: I don't think Jennifer is complaining about nudes on the site but on the recent proliferation of poorly done nude images on the site getting high ratings and thus greater exposure. You are correct; there have always been nudes on the site but very few have made it to the top 50 in the TRP. Those that have been in the top 50 have generally deserved it. Look at the overall ratings of John Peri. Most of his images are far superior to the current high end TRP and yet at the time he was producing in volume, he was lucky to break the top 100. If there are multiple accounts, robots or nude mate raters out there, it gives the rest of PN a controversal image. If the goal of PN is to exhibit quality photography, there needs to be fairness and balance.
  10. Thanks to all for their responses. I've managed to book a full day sea kayak trip into one of the remote fjords in Kenai Fjords National Park. If I get reasonable weather, I'll be a happy guy...
  11. I have an opportunity to go to the Kenai area in mid Sept. for a landscape photo

seminar. Prior to the start of the seminar on the 12th, I have 3 days on my own.

I will have a car. I am aware the weather is transitional at this time of year

and expect some fog and rain. I am looking for good suggestions for places to

go to shoot wildlife. Bears are nice but require a shared floatplane and $550

for the day which I would consider if I knew I had a reasonable opportunity to

get some good shots. (I have a 500 f4 plus telextender plus DSLR plus tripod

with wimberly). My guess is that having good weather and finding the bears and

having one day requires a lot of luck, especially in mid-September. Plus, bears

are rather aggressive then, I would think. But I would also be fond of

photographing other marine life including otters, birds, etc. Even a moose

could be nice. Denali is a 6 hour train ride each way from Anchorage. Worth

it? Anyhow, suggestions and comments are really appreciated from people who

    have been there. Thanks.

  12. It might be nice to have the listed category connected with each critque

request as this might have some bearing on the meaning of an image. As an

example, it may be more clear that an image is intended to be humerous if it

is so categorized. This might be especially true when considered in a

    cultural context.
