Do you like her N65 more than your Elan 7E? If not, perhaps you should first determine who has more invested in your respective systems. If she has more invested, it makes sense for you to switch. If you have more invested, it makes more sense for her to switch.
BTW, Since you mention Canon 70-200L, you should know canon offers three: 70-200 f/2.8L, 70-200f/4L, and 70-200 f/2.8L-IS. Nikon's equivalent to 70-200f/2.8L-IS is at least as good as the Canon lens Nikon no longer makes their equivalent of 70-200 f/2.8L, and Nikon never actually made an equivalent to 70-200 f/4.
Nikon makes a great 28-105. They also make a very good 24-120 VR.

What's wrong with Canon's EOS-20D?
-
Is that Canon there standing on the right?
-
D2H uses a very CMOS-like sensor.
-
"The full-frame sensor also means Canon won't have to develop more lenses specifically for use with DSLRs"<p>
Yes, they do. They only went the full size route with only one professional body, the EOS-1ds. Even its professional near twin EOS-1d uses a subframe sensor. You can check the comparative sales numbers of these two body to see which is Canon mainstay. It's one of those two, and it ain't the full framed one.<p>
Their advanced amateur/low tier professional DSLR body, The EOS-10D, also has a subframe sensor, and that has yet a difference size and proportion to the subframe sensor on the EOS-1D.<p>
Their amateur DSLR, whiling having the same sensor size as EOS-10D, has a special lens line for it that works on neither the EOS-10D nor the EOS-1D.<p>
And you are looking to Canon for future direction?<p>
The conspiracy seems to be no matter how screwed up Canon is, some die hard Canon freak would always be there to bash Nikon and push Canon as living embodiment of foresight.

The fundamental issue that is of interest to me is: "Will Nikon bring out a X version of D-2 soon enough and with enough pixels so that I would feel justified buying it over of waiting for successor to EOS-1Ds?"
<p>
My new years wish was for Nikon to bring out a 16-20Mpixel D-2X in the first half of the year, at roughly the same price point as D-2H.
If they do, it would convince me to stay faithful to Nikon. If not, my heart, not to memtion my eyes, would wonder.

IX stand for "9"
<p>
:-)

Nikon USA has been using rebates to disuade buyers from buying through grey channels.
-
The so called NLS is just one of the early warning signs for a particularly virulent attack of NAS.
My new years resolution is sell all the stuff I haven't used during the last year in order to raise cash to buy stuff I won't be using during the next years.
As you can see, I am truly stricken with NAS.

24-85 AFS.

After smoking undefined substance and not inhaling, I channelled Ansel Adames and his ghost told me that he would only use digital with CCD instead of CMOS.

"There's no such thing as a good 28-200 or 28-300 lens, its just a matter of what's not as bad as the others. "<p>
Nonsense. 28-200 has its place. The one that is not as bad as the others is a good 28-200.

"small quantities of F5 sales today compare with digital such D100.
"<P>
Amateur level bodies D100 will always heavily outsell professional bodies like F5. A more appropriate comparison would be between D1X/D1H vs. F5.

35mm f/2D. Optically excellent, but god only for about 2 month of shooting in between trips to repair shop to clean up oil on aperture blade.
-
Damn, I was hoping for a R rating to keep the Canon kids away.
-
The real question is which will get you laid more, the Brick or the F-5?
-
"Dont let any one fool you, the big ones only weight 1/2 as much as a brick :)"<p>
shame on the brick.
-
Not correct. VR only counteracts rotational motion in the pitch and yaw axis, not side-to-side, up-down translational motion. Mirror slap is mainly a up-down, side-to-side tranlational motion that does not involve rotation.

"What will the advantages of the D100 be over the D70"<p>
D100 would lighten your wallet more and thus make it easier to carry.

"Nikons new SB-800...uses a preflash....and if this is true/correct would definitely make the Nikon flash system even better. Perhaps covering some ground between it and Canon where a preflash can be advantageous" - Carl Smith
All current Nikon flashes, not just SB-800, uses preflash. In the area of the actual quality of flash control, such ground that might exist between Canon and Nikon has, since late 1980s, been in front of Canon and Behind Nikon. Where Canon is ahead is in the area of duplicitious marketing, struggling to pull the wool over buyer's eyes with seldom used gimmicks like FP sync while lagging in area of high utility, like 3D metering and real time flash monitoring.

Different films? Lousy printing of MF negatives? The spirit of the pregnant women who was shot haunting the process?
-
N80 and N90 are sufficiently different so as to make it hard to recommend one over the other without knowing what you will use it for.
-
Hmmm, maybe Nikon would be able to make some extra money off the truly obsessed by getting them to ditch their 70-200VR san dot on the used market and then pay full USA prices for newer ones improved by the presence of the magical dot.
-
It's conceivable D2H's 4Mpixel beats D1X's 5 because D1X's pixels are not square, but instead are are tall and thin, thus offering better resolution in the X direction then in the Y-direction. D2H might very well feature better resolution in the Y-direction than D1X, perhaps achieving a more uniform resolution in both X and Y direction.
