Hi Matt, thanks for the comment! Well, I was using my old, modified-for-infrared Canon 10D and I think a Canon 24-110mm f/4L... and I don't recall doing much to it in PS (other than make it monochrome due to false-colors from the IR... and I probably burned the background a little)

Anyhoo... Just sayin' I didn't change it much from the original shot. ;-)

And, of course, your portraits are amazing! I really like this - it would've worked nicely as a Grateful Dead album cover in 1972 or thereabouts. It took me a minute but darned if those ballet dancers aren't there! Just an amazing abstract! I think M. C. Escher would've approved. ;-)
  1. Well as usual, if I take a half-a$$ shot, it's by accident! I was swapping lenses and put my 85mm f/1.8 on my 10D (set around f/2.8 for portraits) because I couldn't find the cap for the camera. I was at a local, park/duck-pond where the birds are friendly and fly close, hoping to be fed. Some flew nearby so I just pointed it and without thinking, banged off a couple in infrared very quickly... So trust me Shawn, you already know how! ;-)
  2. Hey Shawn! Thanks! Actually I've had that 10D since right around when it first came out. But last fall, I had Life-Pixel remove the IR filter. They also get the low-pass filter so things get a bit sharper - even though it's just a 6 mp camera, it does all right. The White Balance can get quite tricky, though. Rebecca gets all the credit. She's quite good!

Yeah...there's no Photoshopping THAT baby outa there! I had my old 10D converted to infrared by LifePixel and caught these two unsuspecting guys at an overlook near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Unfortunately I didn't have a long enough lens. Story of my life! ;-)

  3. Thanks Landrum! I was using this goofy, "Moose Peterson Warming Polarizer" which saturated things pretty strongly. I really didn't do much to it in post, except remove a stick that was floating by in the lower, right corner. ;-)

She is my favorite model in your (excellent!) porfolio - she's just beautiful. I think the reddish/orange accents her hair nicely. Ahhh... those Italian ladies! ;-)

I wish I knew how to do a model's makeup, but alas I don't. :( If I tried, I'm sure they'd all end up looking like a cross between Bozo The Clown and Marilyn Manson! ;-)

You sound *exactly* like me! My girlfriend always wants more but "The Inn" is full! I've heard it said "Dogs have masters; cats have staff" and that's true with my bunch - I shouldn't do it but I spoiled 'em rotten and now they demand that I wait on 'em hand and foot! I created monsters. ;-)

Hi Rasmus, thanks for your comment! Actually this is a somewhat unconventional shot in that it's natural light. She was standing just inside my doorway and I was outside with... a 500mm f/4L IS lens probably 30 yards away. (Yeah, I know... I'm crazy!) Thus the framing got a bit tricky! ;-)
