  1. I think the space at the top is part of what makes this image something one keeps coming back to explore... somehow the lack of textbook college photo class cropping -- the "imbalance" -- removes clean-cut closure...? It suggests both a smallness and an ethereal greatness: room for growth and hints at that inevitability... it *really* works. It is more visually pleasing, I guess, if I crop it closer and give it more light-dark balance, but is PLEASING what you're really after? "Pleasing" walks towards mediocre, in my opinion.

This is an incredible image -- incredible. I can't decide where I stand on the bathing suit; my first reaction was "Nice color interaction," followed immediately by "If only she were nude: clothing pollutes this scene/feeling." Then "The greener blue of the suit suggests she has her own discrete life force, adding another layer to the image's story," and now I'm back at "My eye keeps snagging on the suit." Asolutely ambivalent. But ambivalence keeps one coming back: lack of immediate closure keeps it interesting!
  2. Fascinating and superbly executed! I am very curious about the slides you projected onto the model; is the dorsal one just straight lines curved by her body, or concentric rings, or something more irregular? This is a gorgeous shot!

I wouldn't say tugs at heartstrings, but only because in my world that term has connotations of yearning/sadness/aching, which this photo does NOT have at all! It is a *delightful* shot -- the perfect confluence of expression, lighting and composition -- and were this a child in my family, I'd make a print larger than my dining room table for display; what a treasure. What lucky parents and grandparents!

I absolutely *love* this series (and I'm female; straight, to boot!) -- they are intriguing puzzles, and at the same time they are gorgeous art. Add to that all the historical, social and yes, political connotations that you simultaneously honor and flout, and this series becomes amazing. They delight me.
  3. The manipulation is *exactly* what makes this image so spectacular. I live there, and these images hint at the incredible things one sees -- filtered through perhaps odd brain areas -- when experiencing what makes Tucson such a breathtakingly gorgeous place to live, while at the same time telling me that I'm missing out on some of the powerful magic out there, and need to seek it even more.

    Bravo!
