Hi Anna, thanks for your generous compliments on my photos, I would actually consider myself as a beginner in every sense. Just like you I love the photo.net community very much and it helps me to improve my skills. Wish you happy shooting too.
  1. Actually I think the person adds focus to the shot as he stopped and looked at the pictures. I've had another shot where there were blurred images of two persons going in opposite directions on the upper and lower stairs respectively which is also interesting, but I like this one more.

    Thanks for both your comments.

Actually I did a little cropping to centre the image, which I think echoed with the location of the centred inter-com headsets. The problem is that in the full frame its a just a little bit off centre to be distracting but not helping composition.

If I had a wider lens then I might like to take an off-centre shot and also maybe even a landscape shot too.

Hi Vitus, surely you like to shoot trees and have demonstrated a personal style on your pics. Its so interesting to see the same place in different seasons.

I like the simple and clean lines of the bare trunk and the dramatic composition. On the other hand, the lighting seems a bit too yellowish to me.

Hope you would post more photos of your trip.

  2. Yes using a tripod would definitely help but I didn't have one with me there and I was on a tight day trip schedule. I just shot handheld for 5 or 6 shots in a few minutes and had to hurry up to catch my mates. On my way back 1 hour later I went through this gate again but the shadow had moved sideways substantially, and it didn't echo with the shape of the gate so well anymore. I've also played on photoshop to change the settings to render complete light hole and silhouettes. But I still prefer this image more since it showed 1) the brick pattern on the city wall, 2) the cobble stone pattern on the ground and 3) the thickness of the city wall.

Thanks for your very valuable comment.

  3. Thanks for all your comments and input. They mean a lot to me.

Yes the scan is quite grainy indeed.

    I'll have to

    1) dig out the negative of this pic to scan again, this time I just scanned the photo only (lazy :) )

    2) learn more about scanning and digital imaging and photoshop

P.S. I was shooting handheld lying on my side on one of the feluccas sailing on the Nile, so getting an image like this is very lucky for me.

  4. Your comments are just overwhelming. Thanks for spending so much time in viewing my images and giving such a spot-on description of your personal experience together with very meaningful comments.

I was drawn to view your works and they leave my mouth wide open. It triggers a lot of mental appreciation and inspirations. I didn't left any comment on your porfolio but I am deeply impressed. I will definitely learn more on how to comment as critical and yet sensational as you and Jean did.

There's nothing happier than knowing others spending time on appreciating & commenting my images. Million thanks.

  5. Just can't get away with it this time. It was not allowed to take pictures during the performace. But when it ended the are many flashes from tourists' cameras(I guess). As a tourist myself I cannot resist to snap a shot before the stage curtain finally went down. Please forgive me. : )
