All: thanx for nice coments and critics... it's always the occasion to learn somenthing or to see it from a different point of view. Thx.

Miguel - I'll try... even if I think that overlapping the images could cause some confusion at the "face" level... I'll try with different transparency levels...

Barthelemy - I know the background is not the best one but thisshot was not planned... I was on vacation with my kid and I've tryied a fast pace shooting... then days later I've thought to try and merge them... I personally like the final effect... I could try to isolate the subject and find a different background.

Ajayan - I think you don't like digital art in general or maybe you think this is not a nice work (maybe since I'm not a pro and this is one of my very fisrt try). If it's the second case (you're a Digital Art pro) any suggestion I can follow is more than welcome.

Not sure I got the question. I took this shot during a walk in Mahon (Menorca, Spain)... this kid actually called me (he was palying with his brother who came and opened the window... the actual shot was much larger I decide to try and crop it horizontal instead of vertical. Hope you lile it. Dicran

Not sure that "street" is the right category... I think this is quite

an intense photo... someone told me to try and "clone out" the

small "iron door" on the right... others told me not to touch

anything. this shot has won the Photo of The Week on

DigitalPhotoCritique.com on August 26th. Any comment/critic is more

    than welcome. Thanx, Dicran.

1 - Sorry. I didn't even imagine that a "protocol" could exist... I'll think twice next time and I'll go check it out asap. Thax for the info.

2 - Hey, don't exaggerate... giving a A=2 and O=2 for this reason seems to me like you want to punish the ingorance (that could be an aim...) on the other hand a strong statement and a judgment on the photo itself (or just the statement with no rating).

3 - Check this out. It's not me it's the New York Institute for Photography... Take a look:

http://www.nyip.com/tips/review0902.php The SAME KIND OF BIRD'S NEST as PHOTO OF THE MONTH (I don't know where they shoot the photo but seems they had no "protocol" worries).

Bottom line: I got the message, I will thank you if you correct your judgement (even deleting it) in order to have your opinion from a strictly-photographic point of view. If you don't... thanx anyway, I've learnt something (the hard way). Dicran.

(Vineyard details). Alternative title: "Rockabilly hair bird's nest" -

A small bird's nest (2 days old) approx only 1,5m high from the

ground... I could not miss this chance.

  1. Going around with my camera looking for interesting subjects I became the interesting one for an approx 65 years old lady who came to me with an old dusty photo to show me what a beautiful girl she was at 20. Thanx Carla... you're still beautiful to me!
  2. Thanx for the comment... colours have been left unchanged I've only darkened a bit because as you can see the flash has whitened the butterfly a bit too my in my opinion... this way the water became a deeper blue.

Without the "cropped chin" it could be a great shot... is this the original? If you have a wider one have you tryied to leave more space at the bottom? I like this shot.
  3. Opinions are opinions but I'd like to understand them well to learn whatever is possibile... while the "messy" statement is, as said, a personal one I'm not sure I've got the "too digital" the right way... since I've added no element to the picture neither I've modified details do you mean that the watercolor effect on the background gives you the imporession of a computer generated watercolor (and not a handmade one)? Is this what you mean with too digital? As a matter of fact the backgrounds has: a standard "no entry" sign, a striped "market umbrella/tent", the actual left side of the street with one shop tent and few lights... do you suggest to blur it or something? Anyway thanx for critics, it's always helpful to compare opinions. What I like in this shot is that while is clear that a watercolor effect has been applied at the top, the level of details make difficult to the viewer to see if has been applied to the whos picture. (Yes it is). Dicran
