  1. Hi guys,

I'll be soon travelling to Sri Lanka and will spend next 12 months of my life on the island. I'd like to buy a new DSLR

(either 5D Mk II - if in stock by end of October, or a 5D, or at least 50D... may be).

I was wondering if it makes sense in terms of price to buy a camera in Colombo or would it be better to get one in

Switzerland - where I will be transitting by. B&H or Adorama options are not possible - I live in Georgia, Caucasus

and having brave Soviet Red Army on one's soil does not necessarily makes international shopping and shipping

    more secure. :):)

Do U guys, have any experience of buying photo stuff in Colombo? Any advice is welcome.

  2. I developed the first roll of Superia 100 shot with Minilux.. NONE

of the photos is in focus!!! I'm trying to guess what I did wrong..

Have no manual to consult :(:( ... I shot this roll assuming that I

was shooting in manual mode: flash off, aperture selected and AF (on

dial) lined up with "P".. Is this the correct way of shooting in

Manual Mode?? AF was sort of working, emiting a sound, lens moving

back and forth shortly before the shot.. In addition those few

photos shot with flash, are over exposed...

Somebody, please, explain to me very basics of using this camera in

Manual Mode and fill flash modes.. Thank you so much..

p.s. could not find the instructions manual on Internet! Searched a

    lot but in vain :(

  3. Hi,

I was about to finish a roll of 400Tmax and camera waited 3-4 days

for the last few shots to betaken. I believe I left the camera on

these days. I pick it up today and oops! no reaction: film rewind

crank blocked, pushing the shutter button does not result in

anything... I suspected batteries (thou they are quite fresh, 2

rolls taken during 3 weeks after batteries were changed), changed

    them - NO reaction!!

    ---

I took the film out.. changed the batteries: No reaction. shutter

button works properly, not frozen, however film rewind crank is

locked: it moves only halfway, as if it is already ready to shoot. I

push the shutter button, but shutter does not move.

    p.s. Mirror is down.

Would you guys recommend something?? 10X

  4. Hi,

I have a Horseman VH field camera, which came with 90mm HORSEMAN

Super ER f/5.6 lens with Seiko-SLV mechanism.

I tried to find in the Net info (reviews, quality, price) on this

lens, but in vain: nothing about it! :(

Do you guys know something about this lens or could you refer me to

any useful links? Any good price guide links?

Thank you for your time and attention.

  5. Hi,

My Dad had an old contax (I believe it's contax 139 or something).

recently decided to get it out of the dust and play with it a bit.

after having shot couple of frames, the mirror went up and stayed

there - does not want to come down. I thought it could be a battery

problem and changed it - still no good news. I tried to force the

mirror to come back to initial position - in vain... film rewind

crank is also blocked du to this problem.. anybody have something to

    advise? thanks...

  6. I have not this, but quite similar problem and if I may, would like to ask uou guys: I try to use in studio my 420EX with 10D, just to make strobes fire. I turn the head of 420EX up and little backwards and press the sutter button... strobes seem to fire but.. hell no picture is taken! everything ends up with 100% black image on LCD... have you, guys ever head such problem?...
  7. I'd like to join the author of this question, since the camera & lighting set up I have (canon elan7 and Prolinca flash units) is quite similar.

One option I think of is to use Canon's dedicated 420EX flash by simply turning up/back its head and not letting flashlight to participate in strobe lighting. problem is that it may not be always feasable (due to the angle of shot, reflection from the walls etc.)

Is there any transmitter (non expensive compared to i.e. 420EX)that can be mounted on canon hot shoe and be able to fire my three Prolinca (250w/s X 250 X 400) units without any additional recievers to be attached to the units in order to make them work as slaves? thanx for your comments...

  8. I just read in a French magazine "chasseur d'images" a review of this lens. It score 4 out of 5, final judgement being that this lens is better for digital cameras rather then film ones with which it shows serious distortion and vignet at wider end.
