I really like the smoothness of the colors in this picture... and the way the duck stands out against the green.
My only "complaint" is the composition doesn't please me as much as the rest of the photograph. This is very minor, though, and this is the kind of photo I'd hang on my wall.

First I'd like to say that I think this is an interesting picture. It's fairly simple, but I quite like it.
I like the scene, but I don't much care for the "effect" the infrared had on it. For instance, the color of the grass and tree leaves don't look "right." I think I would prefer a standard black-and-white taken in the day time.
Nice photo though. :)

The colors are perfect. This is a wonderful scene... the kind you would hang on your wall.

This is a nice photo... but I think I would have tried a different angle, so that the slightly out of focus branch in the lower left wasn't in the shot (thus having just a smooth background with the leaf in focus..). Maybe this is not possible though.

Mark,
I've noticed there are quite a few "raters" on this site that rate the majority of the images they rate as below average and never leave a comment. The system didn't always allow for the extreme ratings (comment required for 1, 2, or 7...) but now it seems you can rate whatever you want. Personally I'd like a lower rating and a tip on how to improve rather than a bunch of high ratings or low ratings and no comments at all.
Now I think there will be a lot more people abusing the system by going around rating every photo low/high.

I really like the contrast and colors of the picture. As someone else mentioned, it's a little grainy but I don't mind that. The reflection on the wing is what I like the most.
BTW, this is a fly that mimics a bee, not a hornet.

This isn't a bee. It's a fly, probably a drone fly or some kind of bee fly. You can tell by the antennae, in which a bee would have longer, segmented antennae. Another difference is the wings; bees have two sets of wings, a large set of forewings and smaller hindwings. Flies have large forewings and a pair of smaller organs called "halters." They are slightly visible in this picture. See my picture of a bee for a comparison.
As for your photo, it is excellent, with great detail and clarity. One little thing, and this isn't really your fault, is the black "thing" in the corner. It's a little unattractive. :)

Very nice DOF for that magnification. Let me ask, is this a type of fruit fly?
-
The out of focus bird (?) on the left kinda breaks up the background... I think it would have been better if the background had been solid or at least all dark...
Other than that, I like... especially the eye. :)
-
This would be a great photograph if it weren't for the unsharp flowers in the middle, especially when all of the others are perfectly sharp.
-
I guess you were trying to show off the water droplets (?)... the unsharp leaf in the middle distracts too much.

This is a pretty good, interesting shot. I know depth of field gets tiny in these situations, but since this isn't a "super magnification," I think this photo needs a little more. For this shot to work the entire fly has to be in focus. The reason is you aren't focusing on a specific part of the fly (eg, faceted eyes), but instead the scene as a whole.
Also, I would have tried to put the fly lower, he may be a little too close to the top of the frame.
Overall, a good photo... just a couple small things stopping it from being really good. :)

The detail is good (if a bit soft) as is the composition and lighting... but, for me, the unnatural environment hurts the photo. As such, I don't think I want to rate it... I just want to say good job because there's a lot of things right about it.
-
I know depth of field is very limited at this magnification and you did pretty good here.
If it had been me, I probably would have moved to its side a little more as to just capture all of the brightly lit side (notice how his back is bright but his mouth is kinda dark...). Also, it's cropped just a little tight.
Good detail though. All those faceted eyes and they still can't tell the difference between a person and a horse. :)

The composition, the subject, the colors, and the photo in general is really good.
A couple things though... it could be a little sharper and there appears to be a green leaf or grass in front of the yellow part of the flower.
Also, a slight contrast/levels/curves tweak might help.

There seems to be a slight color tint, but the detail and sharpness are superb.

I can't really say why, but I quite like this photo. About the only thing I don't like is the car behind the dog... kinda distracts. Otherwise, good. :)
Edit: I tried to rate it 6 Aesth/5 Orig but it said I already rated it or something...

Excellent colors.

I have to say "good job" because this type of picture (where the eye isn't the focus...) is very difficult and this is about as good as you can get. The out of focus abdomen pushes your eye to the interesting part, the sharp hairs on the thorax.
Is this a dung fly?

Nice photo.
Those look like Stilt-Legged Flies of the family Micropezidae.
