Photographing South America in Travel Posted January 24, 2004 I got back from South America two weeks ago after spending 4 weeks in Argentina and Chile. I was backpacking in Los Glaciares Nat. Park and Torres del Paine Nat. Park for about 3 weeks. So I can only share my experience about that part of Patagonia. Both parks are spectacular and you do have to hike a bit to get good views. I thought Los Glaciares was more rugged terrain. Torres del Paine has great views of the Paine massif from the surrounding lakes. You have to be patient with the weather there as you may spend a week and never get a decent view. Also the wind is amazingly strong in summer. A good tripod is a must if you want to photograph in the early morning or late evening. I did the "W" route in Torres del Paine and a similar route in Los Glaciares (though it is not called the "W" route there). The Valle Torro in LG is spectacular. If you go to Torres del Paine plan on spending a few days to visit some of the lakes around there. The wildlife in Paine is great and I had the chance to observe guanacos and andean condors in close proximity. If you are interested in seeing what the scenery looks like in Torres del Paine I have a few photos uploaded at http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=370204 Good luck with your plans.
