Thank you everyone...
The Tamron 90mm looks like the bread winner right now...
With a $60 rebate currently, I think this is the best choice...
This is why I love using photo.net!
Thanks Again!

Hey all,

Been getting back into photography, took some time off...
Just bought a 5D MKII, 20-35L...
Can anyone recommend a good lens for product photography?
My subjects are small auto parts, switches, relays, about 2-3 inches or maybe 2x3 inches LxW.
I also need a high quality lens to take pics of heater controls, radios, or other car parts about 5-10 inches wide...
What would you recommend?
Thinking the 100 Macro looks like a good choice...

Regards,

Thank you Mark...I will avoid the 5D like I do broccoli...
I've decided to sell one of my organs to get a 1Ds MKIII...
Which one gets the highest price?

Rallye Paris-Dakar...that kills me. I saw that in Erfoud, Morocco, or somewhere around there. It's looking like a good used 1Ds MkII. I don't want to sell an organ for a 1Ds MKIII.
I'm not interested in carrying a 5D in a plastic bag should I want to shoot near water.
Thanks for your help...
Anyone have a 1Ds MKII they want to sell? :)

Hello,
I am ready to upgrade from a Canon 5D, to either the 1Ds Mark II or 1Ds
Mark III. I've having a bit of dilemma, due to the fact that I don't want to
spend $6000 for a new 1Ds MKII, and really the only other place to get a good
used body will be "that auction site." That scares me a little to spend
$3500-$4000 on a used camera body. The we have the new flagship 1Ds Mark III...
Can't find it anywhere, and I'll pretty much have to beg, borrow and steal to
drop $8000 on a camera body, but I can do it. I have another $5000 for lenses,
at the moment.
I want to use the camera to continue doing weddings, then after wedding
season, I am going to Africa for a few months to do documentary work for my
website. I've traveled with a Contax 645 to Africa 6 times, and it never failed
me once. I need a hard-core camera body that can live up to well, torture
basically. When I go on photography trips, I don't pussyfoot around in tourist
buses, I get right in there with the locals. I like to assimilate into the
culture, and really feel like I'm there. Dust, rain, snow...they are all part
of the equation! What would you do? I'm trying to break through, by not being
ordinary, but extraordinary...
If I choose the 1Ds Mark III, when will I be able to buy it. B+H is fresh out...
Thanks for your time,

Yes, you are absolutely right. I am looking into getting a 1DS MKII when it's tax time. Pricing
this gives me agita...

Yeah, I totally understand. I looked into it, and read some reviews and putting an extra layer
of glass and air on my lens seems silly...

Hello,
I've been shooting weddings for the past 3 years, and there are many things to learn. I find Photo.net
as an invaluable resource for technical questions. I came from international location travel photography
and love the suspense and the thrill I get from shooting weddings. Here is the problem I have...
I pretty much am going to do the next wedding with the following two lenses: Canon EF 85mm F1.2 L
II, and a Canon EF 24-70 F2.8L, and a Canon 5D. I don't have extra bodies, yet. What bag would you use
for this two lens setup. I'll have my camera in hand, the whole time. I just want to be able to switch back
and forth between the two lenses. I also happen to have the best assistant ever, who shares passion for
photography as well. How would you approach this?
The bag would probably need to hold memory cards, a Canon 550 EX II Flash, and a small notepad 3 x
5". I don't have a 70-200mm F2.8 IS USM or anything long like that, just that monster 85mm F1.2L II.
Thanks for all your help...

Thanks Chris...I'll look into that Heliopan right now...

Simon,
This is merely for protection. I am currently selling my Like New Canon 16-35mm F2.8L
on "that auction site" to afford this desirable lens. This lens will strictly be for portraits and
weddings.

Hello,
I am buying the Canon EF 85mm F1.2L II for my wedding business. I'd really like to have a filter to put
on the lens and keep it there at all times. I will be using this as a walk-around lens for when the bride
gets ready, and for model photography is some abandoned mills around the Providence area. Most of the
time I will be using flash. What do I need, UV, Skylight, 81A, or a Singh-Ray High-Lux filter?
Thanks...

Adam

Yeah, figuring out adding attachments...haha. I sized to 168KB, is that too big? Geez...
I've been following the flash advice, and I have acceptable results. Thank You!

Hello,
I've recently explored product photography and I have a great project coming up. I am shooting
medical instruments to be put in a product catalogue. I have been told that I can use my creativity which
is great. I've seen fellow Photo.netters doing something with blue light...
I shoot Canon 5D, 580EX II Speedlight, and Tungsten light mounted on a stand with different colored gels.
I messed around a little in my studio, but...
Do I need to adjust the color temperature in my camera? I'd like to get that cool blue glow that will
make the product look futuristic. Any suggestions?

I sell things on that auction site, and have had anxious people claim to Paypal that they
didn't receive their goods, then Paypal puts a hold on that money until I can provide
shipping info. I can't imaginine what would happen if a client said they were not satisfied
with the wedding, puts a claim through Paypal, and then they put a hold on all that money.
That's a nightmare waiting to happen. If I tell my clients that I only accept Paypal for
reprints, etc, that might work out just fine indeed.

Hello,
I am very close to choosing a design template for my site. I'd just like to ask some questions about
linking Paypal to my Wedding/Travel website. Is this a good idea or a bad idea? I'd just like to know the
easiest way to arrange for payment of reprints, and if a client wants to purchase one of my prints.
Thoughts...

Neil,
Sure it works. Having to be in the right place at the right time is surely applicable to
landscape photography. If you have to hike 10 miles to get a shot, and you slow down
because "you're tired" you will not be at the right spot when light is magical. I'd say, to
differentiate, Travel-related landscape photography is what I use as a sales tool.

Adam

Ben,
The only reason why I want to mix travel with weddings is for differentiation. I have
booked many weddings after showing my landscape work in addition to my wedding work.
I use it as a sales vehicle and it instills confidence in the client. My pitch is that I have
been to some dangerous places, and that I've had to be at the right place at the right time
in order to get the shot. This correlates to wedding photography. The portraits I have
taken in other countries spark client interest, and get them asking questions. Seems to
work for me...

Thanks everyone. I was thinking about doing an $800-$900 flash website with a shopping
cart at Bludomain for NOW, and when I have $5000+ I'll make some crazy website that is
exactly what I want. The thing that kinda sucks for me right now, is that I have the material,
but then people ask, "Where can we view your work?" I then feel like a novice, and I am trying
to make this my main source of income, so....

Hello,
I am ready to make my website. Money is all set, just have to get about 30 more medium format
negatives scanned, and then I'll be ready to go. I've done alot of traveling with my Contax 645. I switched
to digital for weddings, now I am ready to make a site. I've looked at Bludomain, and their sites look
pretty clean, and as this is my first website, I don't need to have the best site. I just want to promote my
work. Here are my questions:
A) I have traveled alot, and have lots of negs from my travels. I want to make a dual portal Flash site, but
I definitely don't want to overwhelm my clients with too many images. How would you handle this?
B) Eventually I'd like to sell my B/W landscapes and portraits from Africa, Middle East, S. America as fine
art. Should I include them in the travel section or keep everything color for my landscapes. This would
mean probably scanning 20-30 medium format negatives, on top of having to scan 30 color ones as well.
C) How to I increase Search Engine Optimization with a Flash Site? If I go through Bludomain, I have heard
that your site doesn't pop up too often in search engines. Is this because it is a Flash site?
D) My budget is about $1500-$2000, and I would like a Flash site that gets a lot of search engine hits, a
nice dual portal flash site, music, and a shopping cart, unless you think there is a better way?
Thank You! I know this is alot to ask, BUT how else am I going to find this information out? I'd rather not
naively hand over $2000 to a website designer and cross my fingers...
Regards,
Adam

Neil,
I still have about 20-30 negatives, that haven't even been scanned, BUT that I would
like to add to the site. In responbse to having images rescanned, West Coast Imaging has
these images as archive scans, and I was just going to have them downsize 600MB files to
2MB for me.
Regards,
Adam
-
Dave,
I think Bludesign said something like they have a program called "Bulk Uploader" which
automatically resizes the images per their specifications on the site. They recommend sizing
to 2MB files, and then this program optimizes the files.

Hello,
I am about to set up my first website that will encompass my wedding work as well as my travel
photography. I usually scan my medium format negs (landscapes) at 600MB 16-bit with West Coast
Imaging. These are huge files, but sometimes I need to print murals. I have about [50] 600MB files
archived with them. I have about 20 more files I'd really like to add to the website. Here's my question:
West Coast Imaging can downsize my huge files to 2MB for me, so I can put them on the Bludomain
site when I make the website. What is the easiest and most cost-effective way to get 20-30 medium
format negs scanned ONLY for an output of 2MB, so they can be just placed on a DVD with the others for
my site?
I srated using digital for weddings, so I can downsize all my own files easily. I'm just trying to figure
out the easiest way to get my landscapes ready to go live.
Thanks,
Adam C.

Hello,
I recently just purchased the legendary Pentacon 135mm "Bokeh Monster" lens, and I am looking for a
1.4x teleconverter in the M42 Mount to mount to my Canon 5D. I already have the M42-Canon Eos Mount
Adapter, now I need that teleconverter...
Anyone have one? Where can I get this 1.4x teleconverter in a Pentax screw mount?

Adam C.
