that's just how he looked.
i assume he was covering himself to:
1. hide his shame; and
2. spare the donor from the discomfort of making eye contact with him.

no flare or blowout. amazing. amazing composition too -- hypnotic.

... just the way it is.
-
colors and shapes. nice texture, too.

is there a baby in the foreground left?

fabulous sense of colour. very intense formally.
sort of like the crossover from modernism to pop.
-
definitely ghost-like post-modern colours, but classical form.
-
colours as subtle as they are beautiful.

a shot in National Geographic. reminds me of 'corn rows' that Rastas wear.

this picture makes me think of Babar the elephant.

yet almost surrealistic.

-
very refined aesthetic sense. a study in red.
-
a subtle and delicate beauty. very rare.

... effective use of B&w.
-
... exotic colors and shapes

very nicely composed. the dog's head forms an elipsis tightly cropped by the rectangular boundary of the shot. the eyes and the nose form a triangle within the elipsis.
the colors are warm and earthy, as befits the subject (unlike the garish blue blown-out flash look of so many close-up pictures of a pet).
my one (purely subjective) peeve is that i don't care for the "paintbrush" filtering effect.
