Thanks guys for your feedback. It is all well to read about labtests but I prefer to hear it from you guys in the "field". Especially the ICE bit I completely forgot about that. So thanks and keep shooting

Morning all,
I am in the middle of making up my mind what scanner to buy. And I
can't realy decide. The scanner will be solely used for slide
scanning and going through all sorts of forums and reviews I still
can not choose which one to buy.
The ones that came out (keeping money and quality in mind ) are the
following
CanoScan FS4000US
COOLSCAN V ED (LS-50)
Super COOLSCAN 5000 ED (LS-5000)
COOLSCAN IV ED (LS-40)
DiMAGE Scan Dual IV
DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400
The nikon 5000 is the most expensive and Minolta Dual IV is the
cheapest but what is the best one to select keeping quality and price
in mind. Would appreciate some feedback.
Thanks
Tom

I have a good feeling about this one. I have to much minolta glass to completely change to Canon. The 300D is fine but it does lack a number of things I think will be incorporated into the Maxxum 7 DSLR. In the meantime...I might be able to get a REAL good eal on a 10D because my 300D is starting to show wear after 10 months of heavy use.

Thanks a lot about all the feedback. It's a bit clearer now. It's a hassle but part of the territory I guess. When time comes I guess I will have to spend time finding the right party/persons involved in such a proces. Goody.Have a good one.

As I said. The US is a different world. We don't have that problem here.
-
Is this common in the US. I have not heard of this in Europe. Thanks

I have a q concernig the following. I have heard, even though I find
it hard to believe, that if you use photos of for instance the
chrysler building , the empire state or similar for commercial
purposes you have to get an ok from the owners? Doesn't sound logical
to me. A modelrelease for buildings? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks

Nope, they are still there. Click on details.

For a long time nothing happened to the usability of PN and now suddenly they implement changes nearly every day. I hoped that the ratings system would be chaged but this is overdone. No overview like before and you have to click like a madman (woman) to get anywhere.
It is about clicking like they earn a fee per click. I think to get to the information you want you need at least 3 extra clicks and I just hate it. Very user unfriendly

To much changes in a short timespan. Many of the changes make moving around and for instance adding photos more cumbersome. Necessary additional steps need to be taken etc. I don't think that is the purpose of a major overhaul that has been going on. The changes that were inplemented yesterday and today I find a bit to much of a good thing. The rating/comming changes are great though.

Try this for size. In Nederland roken we niet allemaal wiet, dragen we geen klompen en wonen we niet in windmolens :)>

I was not shocked but I was awed. Finally .....

In my opinion anything from 4 to below should be accompanied by a comment. Otherwise what is the use? You don't learn anything from it. At least with an average rating of 5 with at least 10-15 raters you know, when you can also look at their work, if the rating was founded or not? Could keep on ranting about this topic but it wouldn't help. I find people that rate low without commenting are a bit lazy and basically shouldn't rate at all? I usually don't rate a photo when I don't feel that its my peace of cake.

Thanks Peter (there is a Dutch saying, On the market your guilder is worth a daalder (1,50). This helps kind off. Take care

Good morning
I have a question concerning postings for comments and ratings. Up
till last week when I posted a request for ratings and comments I saw
a list of email addresses scroll down at the end of the comfirmation.
Now I don't see it anymore, I also have noticed that the number of
comments and ratings have gone down. Just wondering if there is a bug
or something else has happened?
Second question, who are the people who are getting emails sent to
rate? As I have never seen any requests for it I take it, it is a pre-
choosen set of people who automatically get rating requests?
regards
Tom

It has improved. The speed that is but yeah you are right sometimes it looks like the pictures are dropped on the way.
-
A cheer for Brian for bringing back the views.
-
At least we know what it is caused by. I can't get used to it as you don't know if people like the photographs or not, apart from the ratings c.q. comments left behind. Still it is not the same.

Howard. It's a bit disconcerting isn't it? http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=008CJj. Check this link, it will explain it all. Hope it will be soon fixed because what is the use of putting your photo online if you don't know if the photo is at least interesting enough to check out right?

I have the same problem since the changes on the site. I don't use NIS but have used Tiny and Zonealarm. Even when switched off it seems that downloading the images takes forever, eventhough the text and page itself load rapidly.
