  1. Evan,

If we expect people to write the HTML code, then why don't we use a wiki and make photo.net just a photo storage? This site is for the photographers and not for the techies who will know how to code HTML. Also I am not sure if photo.net comments allows to enter any arbitrary html code.

    Lex,

I am not suggesting that we should allow people to spam the No words forum with comments. I am suggesting if someone like a picture or has some suggestion about the picture, there is no way from No Wards forum to navigate to the picture and do that.

Providing a way to embed an already uploaded photo is beneficial for photo.net as there are no multiple copies of the same image hence savings on storage space. And its good for users because they need not to upload it again to the website.

  2. In the “No Word” forum and at any other place where there is a option to upload a picture, there should be an

option to specify a link to already uploaded photograph in the user’s workspace.

Once the link is specified, the photo can be fetched from the workspace and can be displayed on the page.

It has two advantages, It will save some disk space on photo.net severs and users will be able to click the

picture and provide ratings and comments.

    Regards,

    - Bharat

  3. Yes width of the page is 975 pixels and I understand the reason being most of the standard monitors are 1024 pixel wide. But why the image width is limited to only 680 pixels. I can see that from the html source of the page. The huge navigation buttons on the right and left side of the page takes close to 150 pixels each. These buttons can be easily moved to the top of the image (similar to what picasa does, check the image I have attached). It will provide more space to the image which I guess is more important than those buttons.

I am sorry, I may be beating a dead horse here but I believe such small things can make huge impact on the usability of this great website.

  4. One data point

    http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp

Most of the people (48%) today use 1024x768 resolutions. And a significant number (38%) uses bit higher like

    1280x1024.

Only 8% people use 800x600. In my opinion designing screen such for lower resolution is backward looking. The way

LCD monitors are becoming cheaper, you will hardly find people using anything lesser than 1280x1024.

Do you really think the photo.net users who use state of art expensive equipments, who use expensive softwares to

tune their images, would be using any less sophisticated monitors? I really doubt that.

  5. Why there is so much of wasted space on the page which show single image? There is plenty of space on both side

also the navigation buttons are so big that they take close to 20% of the page width. Unfortunately only 50% of

the width is available to the image. It makes the panoramas look so dull. I have seen many member saying "view in

    large" in their postings.

    Suggestions:

    - Please use the whole width of the page.

    - Please make those previous/next image button smaller and let image grow in width.

I am attaching an image which will show that how Picasa shows the same image so much better.

    Please fix it!

  6. Today when I upload a big photo to photo.net, it returns me an error saying photo can not be larger than 3 MB.

Why cant the software resize the photo and make its size under 3 MB? Most of the other photo sites like flickr

and picasa resize the images on the fly. Today I need to maintain two copies of each image so that it can be

    uploaded to photo.net.

I love photo.net and I have been its member since 7 years, I feel it needs some major changes to keep up with

    other sites.

  7. Thanks All for your tips and suggestions. We had a successful trip. We could not get a site in good campgrounds like Furnace Creek or Texas Springs but we managed to get a spot in Sunset RV parking. So we had to camp in a parking lot :) but it was way better than staying somewhere outside of the park.

Death Valley is paradise for photographers. I will visit here again to correct the mistakes I did during this trip. Here is the slide show of few pictures I clicked during my visit:

I will appreciate if you guys could comment on how can I improve my pictures.

At the very end of the trip I managed to drop my tripod with D50 and 18-200 lens mounted on it. My hood gave its life to save my lens :)

  8. My tripod fell due to strong wind with my D50 and 18-200 VR lens mounted on it.

The lens hood broke but there are no cracks on the lens and it is able to focus

    properly.

Are there any tests I can perform to see if the lens is functioning correctly?

  9. Hi Friends,

We are planning to do camping in death valley on Presidents day long weekend

(Feb 16 to Feb 18). There is only one camp site (Furnace Creek) which takes

advance reservation, rest of the sites are on first come first take basis.

If we reach there by Saturday 11:00 AM, what are the chances that we will be

able to find a camp site?

Any other tips and suggestions are most welcomed.

    Regards,

    - Bharat

  10. I am very much beginner in photography. I am planning to buy my first

    SLR.

I am bit confused between Nikon N65 and N80. Will it make sense to go

    for N80

as I am a complete beginner.

As per my understanding the major difference between N65 and N80 is

    spot metering.

Are there any other major enhancements in N80 over N65 ?

Would spot metering be a critical factor when I will learn the

    details of photography ?

    Thanks

    -Bharat

can somebody share his/her experience on this new camera.
