How did I do it? Its pretty simple but sounds complex. I held the match for the first few frames while I tired to get the basic exposure right, at that point I learned that I did not have enough hands.
I taped the match to the end of the arm on a C stand so that the match was where I would not have to refocus each time.
I struck the match by holding another match and the cable release in one hand, when the subject match ignited I released the shutter. The strobe was hand held and fired by a Pocket Wizard a wired strobe would have worked but the D100 does not have a PC socket.
Nikon D100, 70-180 Macro Lens, SB 24 Strobe , Delkin Devices eFilm Pro CF Card ,Luck and a little talent.

I shot this as a camera test. I wanted to know about the shutter lag
on the D100 and what post processing I would have to do to get the
right colors. The Answers: Very little and Very little.
