  1. <p>Sorry for the link not working, I was trying to move the things around on my blog, and by mistake I've erased it - here is first and only post there - <a href="http://iliveforbokeh.wordpress.com/2011/05/29/a-dream-come-true/">http://iliveforbokeh.wordpress.com/2011/05/29/a-dream-come-true/</a></p>

<p>Thank you all for advice and opinions, as I've written there, I've found my perfect 6x6 camera, and I wish you all the same :D</p>

  2. <p>@<a href="../photodb/user?user_id=499258">Jose Angel</a> - well, we can't argue about taste :-) I don't like creamy bokeh, I like when there is something going on in it, but I know most photographers see this as a fault of the lens - I call it "character" :-) As far as Xenotar bokeh, I like it, I don't think it's great but I would be happy with that lens if I had to :-)</p>
  3. <p>@<a name="00Ylvv"></a><a href="../photodb/user?user_id=4871212">Tom Cheshire</a> - Hm, that is the first time I hear about projection lenses, I'll have to look into it, thanks :-) I have Aero-Ektar, it's a great lens but I use it for 4x5. On medium format, the longest I would like to use is 100mm tops, 110/2 on Hasselblad was too tight for me. The oscillo type lens I have is 75mm f1.9, adopted to Hartblei camera. The russian lens is very weird, no writing on the lens except 85/1.5 - but it requires a lot of work to adapt it to 6x6. Thanks for the suggestion :-)</p>
  4. <p>@<a name="00Ylv6"></a><a href="../photodb/user?user_id=1713391">Michael Axel</a> - I had that, and other than very shallow DOF I didn't see anything special about it, plus it's a little to long for me. When I'll finish my search, we gonna test my lens against 100/2 just to see the difference.</p>
  5. <p>@<a name="00Ylt7"></a><a href="../photodb/user?user_id=144798">Robert Marvin</a> - I'm looking for one, the other four I will sell off :-)<br>

    @<a name="00YltI"></a><a href="../photodb/user?user_id=3817636">D Purdy</a> - I like ultra-fast lenses, there is many great f2.8 but I want something faster than that.<br /><br />@<a name="00Ylu4"></a><a href="../photodb/user?user_id=439922">Chauncey Walden</a> - I have no idea, I like the bokeh from Xenotar, but I'm scanning Noritar 80/2 now and it's much better :-)</p>

  6. May, I've been shooting street with Noctilux for almost a year and I went through quite a few other 35-50mm lenses including Leica 35mm f1.4 both pre-ASPH and ASPH, Leica 50mm f1.4 ASPH, Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f1.4 and Minolta Rokkor 40mm f2 and in my opinion Noctilux is like no other lens. Surely it is heavy, large, difficult to focus, very expensive and obstructs 1/4 ow viewfinder but once you'll learn how to deal with all this it will give you images like no other lens. It is not as sharp as other lenses, it does vignette, it does have swirly bokeh sometimes but it has much more of something else too that I value the most - character. It is simply the best lens I have ever used, I always think that when I look at my images. The only problem for you is that on M8 50mm is no longer 50mm, you'll have FOV of 65mm lens and it is a little too long for my taste. Anyway, here is a few images form my beloved Nocti:

  7. @ El Fang - I know Luigi cases, he doesn't make one that will fit Noctilux inside, he could make one custom for me but that would be very expensive. If I need to go with custom case I'd rather buy another Bessa case and find someone who can modify it for me nicely.

And what is so funny about ever-ready cases? I rather have this to protect my camera and lens when I'm not shooting than any other case or bag. Or maybe my sense of humor is not sophisticated enough to understand the reason :D

  8. Hello,

I have dilemma and I'm posting it here in hope that someone has found solution for it already :-) I shoot Zeiss ikon ZM

and Leica Noctilux (the latest version with hood built-in) and I'm using the bottom part of Voigtlander Bessa ever-

ready case to protect the camera but I want to have complete case that will cover the camera and Noctilux. Bessa

case is way too small, I also have Leica ever-ready case made for M7 with standard front and the bottom is too small

for the camera and the top is too small for the lens too. I was wondering about the Zeiss case made for Ikon ZM but

it says one the B&H website that the case is made for up to 50mm Zeiss lens that is not large at all. I'm sure

someone has a solution for this problem already, please share :-) I would appreciate and advice or ideas. Thank you.

  9. My friend from overseas just inherited a Leica camera and she asked me for advice on how to use it, here are some

    pictures of it <a href="http://picasaweb.google.pl/olusiowata/Leica?

authkey=y00YXl6Q6CQ"target="_blank">LINK</a> . I only know newer M models so I would like to ask what model

is it and where I could find a manual for it. The only thing that I'm not sure about is double viewfinder; I'm guessing

one is for composing and the other one for adjusting the focus. Everything else looks straightforward but I want to

make sure there are no secrets one needs to know to not damage the camera while using it. I would appreciate

    any advice. Thank you.

  10. I had cost discussion digital vs. film some time ago. First of all medium format film should be compared to medium format digital back as far as quality goes. I don't want to see another comparison of DSLR vs. medium format film files seen @ 100%. Large format print from the negative in the darkroom is way better than inkjet print from DSLR, and if we are talking about comparing digital files people forget that medium format scans can be much larger than DSLR files so looking at both @ 100% is unfair. I scan 6x6 negatives @ 400dpi on my Nikon 9000 and resulting files are 8800x8800 pixels, that is 77,44 megapixels, more than six time the size of Canon 5D file so if we look at 5D file @ 100% we should be looking at film file @ 15%, do one and see how that is gonna look like, I did.

Coming back to cost comparison, I'm not including equipment cost at all, lets assume these are equal..................we agreed that high resolution digital back depreciates $10,000 over two years and that is the cost if one wants to have medium format quality in digital. I buy film on Ebay, usually slightly expired and when I buy large quantities (I have 250 rolls in my fridge now) cost per roll comes down to $1.50. I shoot mostly C-41 that any minilab can process well as there is no human input in development process, machine does everything automatically and my corner one hour lab charges me $2 per roll. I scan all the images myself and I print both inkjet and traditional but I will skip the cost of printing, lets assume it's again similar. So the real usage cost in my case is $3,50 per roll of film. Now with the $10,000 one looses on medium format digital back I can shoot 2857 rolls of film, years and years of shooting :-) So for me is not only cheaper but I love the process and results as well :-)<div>00PpyU-49403784.jpg.5549af92d40176939786d282bec1812c.jpg</div>

  11. Well, I did, sold my 5D three months ago as I stopped using digital couple months back and it was only gathering dust. I'm all film right now, shooting with Hasselblad and Voigtlander Bessa and I don't miss digital at all................I totally love it now! I shoot mostly Kodak Portra and some B&W from time to time, I buy my film on Ebay slightly expired to keep the cost down and I found local mom&pop lab that does C-41 for $2 per roll and B&W @ $4 per roll and I scan everything at home. For the amount of $$$ that I got for my digital setup I will be able to shoot for a long long time :-) And I started with digital as well but I never liked it, maybe that was why I kept searching for something else and that's how I found film :-)
  12. Eric, these are Puma high-end sport shoes, very hip and popular in

europe................becoming more and more popular in US too, at least in NYC :-)

As far as the low prices, no country can beat US especially with dollar being so low

now. Several of my friends actually come to NY just to shop, they spend couple

thousands and go back. Electronics are more or less twice the price in Poland when

compared to US right now. With average salary being lower than in Western Europe

or US is harder to afford expensive gadgets for average Polish guy, but Polish

people are very resourceful, maybe because of that :-)

And Rene, as another Polish on this forum i do not find your post offensive at all :-)

  13. Oh well, I'm glad I did get one before they went crazy with the prices.

And Noctilux is not about being half a stop or stop faster than other lenses, it is about the character it has that is visible in almost every picture taken with it. I can honestly say that this is the best lens I have ever used when it comes to the end result.....................and also the hardest to use at the same time :-)

  14. <p>Thank you very much for your help Dave, but I knew all of what you stated before I asked the question here. If this thread is so unclear to you I'll sum it up, I'm looking for a medium format SLR that offers more than 10 degrees of tilt and it's smaller than Fuji GX680. I couldn't find one so I was hoping that one exists and someone could point me to it.</p>

<p>Actually I'm glad I asked cause Børre Ludvigsen helped me in the very first post when he mentioned Zoerk as they have a almost perfect solution for my problem.</p>

<p>So thank you again for your opinion, even if you didn't mean to help at all.</p>

<p>And yes, he uses tilt the "wrong" way and planing of doing a lot more of that too :-)</p>
