First attempts at using GIMP for digital darkroom techniques. Any
comments? Also, any comments about the square format in this case?

very nice, would be great if there was more detail in the rocks and underneath the bridge

i like the reflectiveness of this. i would rate it higher if you levelled the horizon to prevent the image from tipping off the left-hand side, and if the clouds didn't obscure the mountain backdrop.

I love the tonal range: the movement from light at the top to dark at the bottom, as well as the the diminishing perspective, give me a great sense of vertigo. Excellent.

could you have got in tighter? how about cropping it tighter? nice sky and good sense of location, but i feel you need to draw more attention to the main subject.

nice looking guys, however i find the stool at the back distracting. good foreground lighting.

Strong landscape, Gary, with good foreground detail and plenty of d.o.f. and isn't velvia amazing?
i am concerned, though, about how dark parts of the image are compared to the top right corner. i'd also like it if the foreground detail was brighter so that it led your eye into the top third of the image. currently, the foreground feels heavy. not sure, but an ND grad filter may be useful here to provide a more evenly distributed exposure. hope that is helpful.
