  1. You may have started a debate here, but not from me. I would suggest the N65, its a nice camera that I beleive has everything your looking for. I think they are about 349 with lens combo, but I could be wrong. Whatever you do, shop at a reputable dealer and NOT one of those places that the price looks way to good to be true, it is.

I personally own the N55 and love it. It does not have DOF preview or anything like that, but its a nice camera.

  2. I am luckey and a pretty wife to work with and I to am sorta in the same boat as you. Sure, i have my wife, but I want to practice on someone I dont know, to learn more. Here is the best answer I have for you. Network! Go to amatuer model photo shoots and start off with a basic model clothed. If you build a trust with one, you may be able to get her to do some semi nude or nude modeling. You can hire models, but that can be costly. Talk to local universities that have preforming arts classes, alot of those students may help You can go to www.onemodelplace.com and see what models are in your area, but be warned, I have not had any luck with it. I am going to go to my first amatuer photographer/model shoot next month and maybe I will get a model or to that will allow me to shoot some of this. Oh, most of those shoots are in public places and dont allow nude shots there, but if you get one that likes your style and stuff, you may be able to hire her for TFP at another time.

  3. For a $500 budget you have a few options. First off, you have to figure out if you want to have just 1 focal length or more. The photography class I wanted to take required atleast a 35-80. You can buy a kit for far less than $500 if you shop right. Avoid those to good to be true offers in the mags. Stick with B&H or one of them.
  4. I think I understand the whole soft focus thing. Basically you shift

it a bit out of focus but not enough to really make it look bad. Now

the question, is there certion F-stop to use for this, or shutter

speed that works better? I have not tried this yet, but am wanting to

give it a try. I have only relied on my cameras AF to do all the work

    for me.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  5. I cannot answer alot of this, but it should say on your book or your lens what size it is (58mm I think is standard size). You can spend as little as $10 per filter, but the one I suggest getting before any others is the UV filter. The reason I say this is that UV filters are clear, and I personally would rather risk scratching a $20 peice of glass than the lens itself. I have not heard of the filters scratching the camera lens, but I guess its possible.
  6. I have followed this story closely (being from Ohio). Now the reason he was put in Jail was becasue he was posing the bodies with objects, and did not have anyones permission to do this. In Ohio it is called gross abuse of a corspe(sp) be Ohio Revised Code chapeter 29. If he would have securited families permission to do this, along with the cornors permission, it would have been ok. He was not from the same area as our congressman who is now in Jail. You are looking at diffrent districts and about 150 miles diffrence.
  7. Hi,

I personally bought a Nikon N-55 (299.00 with 28-80 lense) and I like it. They also have a big brother to it, the N-65 I beleive for 369.00. I have seen the Cannon Rebel "G" which is last years model going for 199.00, and depeding on where you go, it may include the lense. I suggest the Nikon due to my personal experience. You can only fit Nikon lenses on Nikon and so forth. Now you can buy Sigma and other (off brand) lenses that will work fairly cheap. I say off brand only because it is not the same brand as camera.

  8. Not sure if you bought it from a repuable dealer, if so, take it to them, it maybe something they have seen before any may even be able to fix it. I had a problem with my Nikon N55 and took it back where I bought it (had it about a month) and they just ordred me a new one and sent the old one back as defective.

  9. Does anyone own either of these cameras? I just wanted to get general

opnions on what others feel about them. I have the N-55 and so far

been happy, but would like to hear what others think.

  10. I was reading a magazine and found deals on cameras that I just could not beleive (Nikon N65, 2 lenses and bag for 269.00 for example, I am looking at that one now). I called the store, the people were rude, and the camera was 1. Not as advertised and 2 Not in stock. They said it would be 4 months before recieving the camera when I was actually looking to buy one (I bought a N-55 from a local dealer). Point is, buy from a reputable dealer, dont go with one of these deals that sound to good to be true, because I would guess it is.
  11. I would buy the combo they are offering, and as you progress with the hobby/career, you can upgrade your lense. I have the Nikon N-55 with the basic 28-80 lense and I am going to be buying a sigma 70-300 next. I dont look at all the technical info on them since it would be like trying to read spanish for me, but I do go with what the shop suggest as they have never done me wrong, and has a great reputation with the local photographers.
  12. I have an N-55 and I love it. I am new to photogrpahy and have had some (not alont, my error) decent pictures with it. It somes with a 28-80 lense and can pick up a sigma 70-300 zoom for 159.00 (Cord Camera). I looked at all the SLR's in that price rage (300) and talked to 3 local camera shops that deal in both cannon and nikon, and 2 of the 3 suggested the N55 over the cannons.
  13. At this point in time anyways, I doubt that any digital print can look as good as negative printed. I also doubt that film is going to be done away with, or why would the big makers still be making the things? Dont get me wrong, digital is good to have, especially on a vacation where film might be super expensive, but I still like my SLR.
  14. i find this to be a nice picture. tasteful and shows the story. my only thing that in spots it seems to bright, but with no practice with the lighting, its understandable. Congrts on the baby btw.
