  1. In the nearly three years I have been in SB, my favorite place I have found for seascapes is Refugio State Beach. It's about 25 miles up the coast. There is some very interesting geology. Walk west (right if looking at the ocean) up the beach and you'll find some great rocky coast. Be prepared for a little rock scrambling as the walk is best done as close to low tide as possible. Low tide this weekend is between 2 and 3 in the afternoon, so you should be good.<div>00Ipec-33553584.jpg.7221f3a9653bcdbcb27284f9c634fda0.jpg</div>
  2. Thanks for the responses and advice. This is the first step of several for the project. We were told to start with a wide audience and narrow it down as we went along. So, I will do it this way: if you are a professional nature photographer, and wouldn't mind taking a survey similar to the questions above, please <a mailto="andrew.bennett@my.brooks.edu">e-mail me.</a> Thanks in advance.

answer the questions below. You can post your answers in this thread or feel

free to e-mail me your responses at andrew.bennett at my.brooks.edu Thanks in

    advance.

  4. Hey Adam, nicely done. I think your site is well thought out both in functionality and aesthetics. One thing that I noticed is that on the Gallery pages, the numbers representing the different galleries do not change to indicate which page you are viewing. I know it says this at the top, but most people click on the links at the bottom of the page after scrolling down. It would help the ease of use a lot if you changed the numbers to indicate which page you are viewing. Perhaps just get rid of the redundant link to the page you are already viewing. Also, you have a few images that are very similar (slight changes in composition and framing.) I think it would be a little better if you picked your favorite one and got rid of the rest. Hope that helps.

  5. Alex,

My guess would be that your IR remote is not capable of doing bulb exposures. IR remotes can open the shutter, but without a locking feature have no way of telling the camera when to close the shutter. Try using one of the 10-pin cables (MC-30 or MC-36). I could be mistaken though, so someone correct me if I am. Hope that helps.

  6. Thanks for the responses. Gary, the local news here in SB always refers to the SLO area as the "north coast", the SB area as the "central coast", and the Ventura area as the "south coast". I will definitely have to head to the bookstore this weekend to check out the different books and articles you guys have written. Thanks again for the input. Andrew
  7. Dave, thanks for the thorough response. I have driven through the area several times, but I am always heading to points further north and east. I figured it was about time to explore closer to home. I have stopped and watched the seals a few times before. Your responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Andrew<div>00H7si-30890884.jpg.c4ac343ca1bfa2a58833efe3d71d9a3b.jpg</div>
  8. Dave, thanks for the Santa Rosa Creek Rd. suggestion as well. Concerning Montana de Oro SP, would you recommend sticking to the beach or to a trail like the "Bluffs Trail?" Also, are there sections of the beach that are impassable at high tide? Do you have any info regarding Oso Flaco Lake near Guadalupe? The description in my "Hiking California" book sounds pretty interesting. Thanks again for all of the help. Andrew<div>00H7op-30889584.jpg.451335c3c28cdfb9195f2ca440cf34e1.jpg</div>
  9. Hello,

I live in Santa Barbara, and I am hoping to do some day trips in the next

couple of weeks. I am very familiar with the SB area "south coast," but not

the SLO area "north coast." I was hoping to get some suggestions for locations

on the north coast. Oceano is one I am considering, but I am worried that I

won't be able to get away from the OHVs. Any other suggestions in the area for

landscape/seascape shooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  10. Covering that much ground in a week doesn't leave a whole lot of time for photography... Be sure to take Highway 1 from Monterey through Big Sur to Morro Bay. Any of the NP's along the way would be great spots. If you're doing this soon, anywhere in CA besides the coast and at elevation is going to be quite warm. So, I would recommend sticking to those places. You may want to considering altering your plans to allow for more exploration and picture taking. Hope that helps.

  11. I purchased one about 4 months ago, and have been quite happy with it. The extra working distance is very nice. Only going to 1/2x is one drawback, but I have used a reversed diopter with fairly good results. Overall a nice lens with excellent build quality. Though I have no complaints with the optics, I will leave that for someone more qualified. Hope that helps. Andrew<div>00Gv23-30551684.jpg.5efd9fb6145e1fd79ceadcfe11c000f7.jpg</div>
  12. I was just in Yosemite two weeks ago and "Spring" was just starting. The dogwoods should be in their prime and the falls should be at their peaks. You should be able to find nice shots anywhere in the valley. Do some exploring, you will have plenty of time. I would definitely recommend the Vernal/Nevada Falls hike. Late afternoon to early evening is the best light on Nevada Falls with Vernal Falls being a little earlier. The Mirror Lake loop is also a nice hike and relatively flat. Make sure to take a polarizer. <a href="http://www.nps.gov/yose/now/tioga.htm">Tioga Road</a> will still be closed, so you will be more or less stuck in the valley. Head west on Hwy 140 for some nice views of the Merced River and some more waterfalls. Hope that helps.
