1. Thanks to the info. I've searched amazon and 222.adobe.com and can't find an upgrade that applies to PSE2.

On the adobe site the only upgrade listed has this note:

To install upgrade successfully, you will need a serial number and a previous version of this product on the same platform as this purchase. Upgrade does not apply to Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Limited Edition, or Adobe PhotoDeluxe owners.

Please let me know if you come across an upgrade that applies to PSE2.

    Thanks

  2. How are you scanning? What equipment and scanning software?

I've found that I get better color fidelity with photo CD scans of slides (Fuji Veliva, Provia 100, 400 and old Fuji 40-0 pro) than with negatives (variety of mostly Fuji). The scans from the negatives have a washed out color cast look. I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to correct the negative images using a variety of the tools and the negative scans come out looking pretty good. Don't have to do as much with the slide scans.

BTW I use imagers in atlanta for photo CD scanning.

  3. I think the latest is version 2. Check out Hidden Elements for some neat tools and tricks. ALso I got a copy of Photoshop Element Solutions by MIllel Asland and have found it to be a great book if you are just learning PSE2.

    Enjoy.....

  4. Okay - I've priced out the Intel system and now need sugestions for AMD. I'm AMD stupid so please explain XP and MP.

What motherboards would be recommended. Looking for high reliability, USB 2.0, FireWire, 4 IDE UDMA 100 or higher ot serial ATA, on-board promise raid would be nice with AGP 4X or higher. Don't need onboard sound or LAN. Must take up to 2 GB RAM.

    Thanks in advance.

BTW - I'll publish the cost and specs when I have the AMD system spected out.

    Cheers,

    Eric

  5. Thanks for all the advice. I've just looked at newegg.com and validated that there prices are better.

    Some additional Questions and clarification:

Dual Monitor Usage

    - What is the most common way to use 2 montitors (e.g., menus on one and image on another)?

The ASUS montherboard takss DDRam (2100)

Tell me more about photoshop's use of multiple disk drives. How do I configure this. The use of Raid 1 was to ensure some additional safety. I have an onstream 30 GB tape system to put into this system but have lost data through the years to disk failure and was thinking the safety of Raid was worth it. If PS needs temp space I have spare drives that I can put into the system (20 GB) or can buy a new one since they are so cheep.

I'll configure/price out one or two AMD solutions as well as the intel one and will post the results here if people are interested.

Tell me more about dual CPU AMD systems. I've had dual cpu systems in the past (non-PS work) and did not see the benefit. However, this was with NT 3.51 and NT 4.0. Maybe the motherboard was ahead of its time.

XP Pro is the OS of choice for this system from my standpoint.

Thanks again for the valued feedback.

  6. I'm building a Digital Darkroom and need to assemble a fast Intel

    PC. I'm considering an ASUS P4B533-E motherboard, P4 18 or 2 BHz

CPU, Raid 1 (2x80GB), ATI 9000 Pro Video card, DVD Player, etc.

Will likely put 1.5 or 2 GB in it. I either an going to buy the

parts and assemble them myself or get the company I buy the parts

from to assemble them. Price and relability are important. I've

    discovered motherboardexpress.com.

However they have very poor ratings on Reseller Ratings.

    Recommendations welocmed on:

    Motherboards or Parts Suppliers

    PC build Companies

    1.8 GHz P4 with 1.5 GB for Photoshop ~2500 x 2000 pixel images

    Thanks in advance

  7. Thanks for all the feedback. I'll be getting a wacom tablet that includes Photoshop Elements 2 for free so at least I can get started with it.
In another posting the poster mentions that Adobe has offered an upgrade path to Photoshop 7 for about $300 for registered users of Photoshop Elements 1. I'm wondering if they are going to do the same for version 2 users? If so I'd love to save $300.
  8. I'm building a digital darkroom and have a limited budget. I'm an

amateur with 20+ years of snapshooting and 6 months of serious

    learning and improvement.

Initially I want to touch up some photos, adjust color and sharpen

photos for printing on a canon and display on photo.net. I do want to

start out with proper color management so that I build good workflow

habits. I'll use a color vision spyder with photoCal for my monitor

    calibration.

Can I do what I want to with Photoshop Elements?

    Thanks

  9. I've got a Dell Optiplex GX1 with and integrated AGP ATI Rage Pro (8

MB) video card that I want to make a digital darkroom PC out of. It

does NOT have an AGP slot. So I need to insert a PCI graphics card to

upgrade the video. The trouble is that PCI graphic cards are rapidly

    disappearing from the market.

I have found a ATI 32 MB Radeon 7000 that is a PCI version. Anyone

    have any

experience with this card or can anyone recommend another PCI card?

    Thanks

  10. To help your eye adjust even more, drap a cloth over the back of the camera to exclude more ambient light.

Use a shutter release cable if you are not already to avoid camera shake at slow shutter speeds and large f stop settings.

Enjoy this lens. I have one and love mine. I use mine as a macro for flowers, bugs and spyders. It also makes a fine portrait lens for tight facal shots.

    Cheers,

  11. I need some advise on scanning and printing some wedding photos taken

    on Fuji NPS 160 Film.

I took the group portraits in the church to keep the wedding party

from having to stand in 100 degree heat. The group pictures came out

great except for one problem. On the back wall there is an artifact

of some lighter paint (wall was touched up I guess) that only showed

up under the brightness of the flash. The artifacts are right behind

and above the heads in the center so I can't crop the images.

I'm thinking about having the negatives scanned (about 30 of them),

touch them up in photoshop, and printed. I'm now building a digital

darkroom but won't have a film scanner in time. I hope to have a

    printer in time (Epson 2xxx).

I want to print these as 8 x 10 pictures ( or larger) with archive

    quality paper and ink.

From what I see I have 4 choices for scanning

    1) Kodak Photo CD Base 16 (2048 x 3072)

    2) Koday Pro Photo CD Base 64 (4096 x 6144)

    3) Richmond Camera (Richmond Virginia) unknown scanning type at 2048 x

    3072

with JPG output, 18 MByte file (I'm going to test this scanning

service this week, I'll post results)

    4) Drum scanning <= probably too expensive. If I could pay for this

I'd buy a Nikon film scanner.

I'm interested in any advise that others have on the scanning and

printing. These are pictures for my Sister in law who was not going

to have pictures taken so I offered.

After throwing out the problem photos I ended up with about 100

respectable pictures including informal party shots. For reference

all the photos were taken using a Nikon F100 with Fuji NPS 160 Film

and a Nikon Speedlight SB25 with a StroboFrame Flash Bracket, Nikkor

AF 28-80mm 3.5 - 5.6D lens and some close up portraits with a AF Micro

    Nikkor 105mm 2.8 D lens (I love this lens).

Thanks for any and all help that you can offer.
