  1. Yes, this is an old thread but to clarify the answer:

The camera in the photo is a Toyo View Deluxe (exactly) It is the original model in this series, predating the D45A (which had simple, friction locking on the side shifts) and the D45M (same as the A but with a rack and pinion knob for the shifts). The defining characteristics for the Deluxe are the metal , not plastic knobs on all of the controls and the external detent arms for the front and back zero tilt position. These were not continued on either the D45A or D45M. This version of the Deluxe has a short rail clamp but there was also an earlier style of clamp that had a longer, rectangular cross-section pillar. This is a very fine, precision camera but somewhat heavy.

The attachment for the viewing hood is specific to this model and later hoods do not fit it but the lens boards, bellows and alternate backs are compatible with later Toyo models.

  2. As far as I know there never was a separate 4x4 insert mask for the film plane.

The nearly full width mask has triangular nicks above and below the opening to indicate

where to physically cut a 4x4 transparency from the 4x6 image.

The Va is essentially identical to a Vb except that the waist level finder

is permanently attached. Ideally, one can find the parts to convert the

Va into a Vb, using interchangeable finders and then taking the same

screens as the later Vb and Rolleiflexes T and E3 and F. Failing that,

manufacturers such as Beatie make screens for old Rolleiflexes and these

will also fit the Va. Don't try to fit a fresnel under the groundglass as it

hits the parallax compensator. If you can track down the microprism screen

for an SL 66, I believe that it will mount in the TLR's when rotated 90 degrees

from the way it sits in an SL66.
