1. Ideally, you must use the original bulb with the 90 degree filament. However, we have tested a VW LED replacement car bulb with a seperate power supply and it works well because the LED version fits into the same socket as the original bulb. Will post the bulb picture but beware it will not work with the original transformer. Regards Paul
2. Rare EC flash tester for your viewing pleasure....
3. Before my annual pilgrimage to the UK's only decent camera fair of the year, Photographica 2023, I thought I would share some of the unusual items on display on my stand. It appears that the earliest minox C was serial number 2300101. Well, here is a shell of Minox C 2300186. Also a factory tester for the EC flashcube accessory without wasting flashcubes. More coming as I go through my boxes. I just found a chrome hot-shoe adapter for the B/BL 'made in japan' apart from the usual black model. The MC Minoxar Sony adapter is also added as a first. M.ay even bring the original Minox EC blueprints, but would have to make sure they are safe: I had scans and mousemats made as well of the EC blueprints.
4. We have transplanted both the Minotar and Minoxar to a Sony mount and will perform side by side tests on a Sony A7. We will also perform a test with the original minotar with the UV filter. From Minox's own marketing I would expect the Minoxar to outperform both minotar setups. The lenses have been rebuilt with disabled shutters Would anyone be interested in a Minox AL fixed focus lens on a digital body? We have very few minoxar parts so would only expect 4 or 5 to be available. Paul mshobbies.co.uk
5. Has anyone please got a photo of an unbent metal gate of their SF 200 or SF 210 Nikon slide feeder. Mine got attacked by some thin slides and the LS5000 motor of doom to bend the prongs. I think I have to take it apart to fix it. Gulp. Many thanks in advance.
6. As you all know we have issued our new 8x11mm aluminium cassettes. In testing compatibility with VEF Minox, we found that the cassette chamber s actually smaller than the post-war minox. So we are making new Riga-sized cassettes: they will be grey, to distinguish them from the earlier models: pricing to be set.
7. Just assembled a Telyt 400/560 kit with the shoulder stocks (never knew there were 2 types) and 2 pistol grips (1 with R electric release in the motor drive and 1 with cable release hole) Well, the lens on my Sony A7R III with in-body stabilisation and a wire cable release into the USB-C socket suddenly makes this lens incredibly useful. Weight is comparable to a 150-600mm sigma, and there is no AF hunting in low light. These lenses are far cheaper than they should be with that leitz name on them, and a lot of fun to use. the genius of the two peice design means that can fit into my bag. The technological addition of mirroress camera in body stability and high and useable ISO with the existing high lens quality and fast focus has made the lenses a portable proposition.
8. I recently bought in this interesting VEF Minox from a dealer. It has a deliberately disfigured serial number, but inside shell it was engraved '2025x'. Works 90% but a missing piece from the shutter mechanism makes speeds unreliable and as usual the frame counter does not work. Not for sale, but interesting as to 1. why go to this trouble and 2. The horizontal tiny engraving on the lens.
9. Blame Leica. Sony approached then in 1998 asking to license the Minox technology for a new digital camera. Leica being Leica said no, then sold off the Minox brand once the digital ship had sailed and the analogue ship had foundered. The true 8x11mm 'digital Minox' was the Contax i4. Not for nothing was it so small.
10. Not entirely so. Minox USA still list suppliers of 8x11mm films and 8x11mm and 35mm repairers. (Films & Lab Service). Whereas Minox.com not only have removed all of the 8x11mm and 35mm repairers (ie MS Hobbies and Blue Moon) but specifically say this in the FAQ CAMERAS Is it possible to have my MINOX 8x11 | 35mm cameras repaired? Unfortunately, due to lack of replacement parts, we can no longer repair 8x11 | 35mm camera If that is not enough to increase my blood pressure Minox.com then state this: I no longer have my user's manual. Where can I get a replacement? Most of the manuals can be downloaded here ...and there is no link! Ever stranger they list 1 lab that can process uncut E6 Minox slide films but not BW or C41...
11. Thanks for this. This accessory seems more useful than I thought.
12. Rare is an overused word, but I cannot find many references to this: an adapter for Canon screw lens to canon FL lenses, from 1966. New in the box. Has anyone else seen one of these: the P adapter was common but not the A or B adapter.
13. We have a glut of new Minox EL hood and filter sets for sale for £10.MSHOBBIES. CO. UK note that later filter models for the gt ml seried will not fit the el: .
14. Biggest feedback I get from my customers is the GT and ML work great with the right battery and when serviced after a long retirement. Customers prefer the size and weight. Contax T's are great whilst they work: once they go wrong, like the XA, there are no parts available.
15. Hello Scanning 8x11mm on an Hasselblad/Imacon requires a special holder. Although you can ask Hasselblad for a custom model (£262 each), I asked a third party to design one. Film holder for Imacon Flextight scanners, 28x226.5 mm, scan 126 & 135. | eBay $150. The holder will hold a strip of 10 negatives. Early tests without the custom holder shows even my elderly Precision III finally beats a very old Minox enlarger: there is a softlight in high end models that minimises dust and scratches. A minox sized holder will improve sharpness.
16. The E110 offers manual exposure control so works well with lomography 200 asa tiger film. A110 also works well but some cameras may over expose.

18. Hello, I have this lens. I bought it by accident as it as attached to a Canon rangefinder camera : 'national optical company' sounds Japanese. I then found a suitable Reid body for it. I will post pictures later.
19. great find. you may want to check the lens focus and adjust to get precise sharpness. why minox stopped the built in safelight is beyond me. we actually built our own postcard adapter and found it worked really well. good spot on the battery
20. So here is what we do at MS Hobbies. Colour: I found that the Minolta 5400 set at 2700dpi gives sharper results than at 5400 dpi. Same applies to Nikon LS4000 (4000/2000pi). We used a special holder in the Minolta made out of a AN 35mm glass slide with a channel for a Minox negative line of 10. The Nikon we use a single cardboard 35mm mount with a 8x11mm window (these are from the 1960's, green). Nikon is less hassle, Minolta, slightly better results. Software? Colorfast pliugin for photoshop for colour balance. Does a much better job than default PS settings. Black and White. Umm. I still cannot beat printing the BW negatives with a Minox III enlarger then scanning the print. Make sure you get one with a diffuser. The III is much brighter than the II even with the same minox bulb. I did a test for a customer and sent him two scans: he went for the enlarger scan immediately. An interesting game is to use the BW enlarger and then copy on DSLR and macro lens. For colour, you are hampered by the vignetting of the light on the edges of the Minox frame, but you get HQ results - no dust or scratch. filmscan USA - the adapter is VERY fussy about film width. Curly negatives are not well handled. PS Do not be fooled by the false promise of the Minox Colour Enlarger. It was designed to do Agfa CN film - which does not have an orange base. It does not the power to light C41 negatives. Expect much more Minox on British TV this coming Autumn: the VEF Riga will be in action.
21.
I am importing acmel cassettes and film in bulk. The manufacturer is in Tokyo. i do not yet know if these are new acmel cassettes or newly-made stock. Film quality and cutting quality is outstanding.

22.
Minox Enlarger, D800 55mm Macro-Nikkor f3.5 + Photoshop to correct perspective, vignetting. Project onto white paper, better formica, do not use shiny surface as reflections will kill you.
I use Mk2 colour enlarger for A/B. Mk3 black and white for Riga/BL/C/LX etc. Correct enlarger for correct lens make a big difference. 36mp sensor minimum to get best of the negative. Tried 24mp sensor, no good. 55mm Macro Nikkor outperformed the 105mm VR.
Enlargement on enlarger 8 x 6 outperforms small enlargement - less work to do for the sensor. Long exposure, f8 to get the focus sharp on all areas of the enlargement. Tape the enlarger lock with black tape to avoid reflections.
Easy really! When compared with the Canoscan 4000US, canonscan gave better exposure and colours out of the box, but minox enlarger and sensor outresolves it.

I have nagged nikon to add a negative/slide picture contol as they had in the early coolpix.

23.
We used to sell the Rollei diadirect slide film but processing of it proved impossible.

24. Andy Britten can repair some BL problems the usual repair is to replace the meter wholescale.
25.
With Minox announcing that Blue Moon and Camera (clue: it is on the online questionnaire) are going to license 8x11 Cassette Production. One assumes that includes films and new cassettes, the USA Minox users are going to be happier. Leaves European users with a bit of a problem. For me it means more cassettes in the wild.
Added to increased production of sharan cassettes to Europe and the market for 8x11mm films is looking a lot better for first time in 5 years.
