I purchased my Rolex GMT Master in St Thomas VI in 1968 for +/- $250 (worth in the vicinity of $3000 today) and have been wearing it every day since. I wonder what the M9 will be worth in 40 years.

I do believe that all Leicas that were/are painted by Leica have top and bottom plates of brass without any applied nickel coating. The paint is applied directly to the brass.

-

The Silver MP top plate is clearly of brass. My question is whether the chrome finish is applied directly to the brass or is there a layer of nickel applied to the brass first, then the chrome applied to the nickel.

I have found the 24/25 able to fill the gap between a 21-28 in that two steps forward you have a 28 and two steps backward you have a 21.

I have been using Vue Scan with my NIkon Cool Scan V. I would like to know what success anyone has had in converting a Color Slide to
Black and White and the work flow used.
I have had marginal success thus far in changing the output to either a TIFF or JPEG Bank and White.
Any assistance would be welcome. Thanks.

I would like to see a survey with respect to the number of non M8 owners who continually bash the camera
-
Seriously, do consider the Voigtlander

It did indeed look like an M6 Panda

I am contemplating the purchase of a Full Case for my M8 and in that am curious as to how the Leica
M8 Ever Ready Case has been received. In particular how it stands up to relatively extensive use. Any
input would be appreciated.

Ron: I did not use a tripod. Taken from a Tram and steadied againt an upright pole. I
did however use the 1.25x Leica Magnifier which I keep permanently attached.

Contact Don Goldberg DAG CAMERA REPAIR. I am reasonably certain that he can do the
modification you describe.

Apart from being 1 stop slower (2.8 v 2.0) the Summaron 35 f2.8 is a worthy contender.

Stephen:
A sticking shutter release, whether in a Kodak Brownie or a Leica MP 3, is indicative of a
problem with the shutter release mechanics of the associated camera. I posted this
inquiry not because I am a "fondler" but rather because I value and rely on my equipment
and in that am most concerned when a mojor component appears to be malfunctioning.
The fact that the MP 3 was designed to exhibit a "butterry" release is of signficance if only
as a benchmark for comparison of operational characteristics. Clearly, we are talking
about a camera shutter release and not the trim switch on a Boeing 757 however in either
case a potential malfunction, which is easily indentifiable and correctable, deserves
consideration.

I wish to thank everyone for their input and suggestions. Camera still covered by Passport
so I guess it goes off to New Jersey.

Bill: Without the Soft Relese, the shutter button performs without any apparent problem.
I gather from your description that the button on your MP was stickiing without the Soft
release fitted. When you sent the MP in for Viewfinder repair, did you mention the
shutter button problem or did they attend to it without your mentioning it? Clearly, as it
stands, the problem is evident only with the soft release fitted and Leica will most likely
balk at at "repair" that can be demonstrated only with a non leica aftermarket appliance
installed.
