    Subway

          5
I don't really see what the point of this photo is. Backs of people's heads - a generic subway train - distracting signs that tell us nothing important . . . interesting converging lines, but that's about it. Am I missing something profound?
  1. I took this photo of a bare tree on an ancient tomb mound in a small

valley near Kyungju, Korea, on a clear winter afternoon. I think this

image captures the silence and loneliness of the place. Any comments

or constructive criticism would be appreciated.

  2. The shed itself and its reflection are what is interesting. If you used a telephoto lens, and framed the shot horizontally instead of vertically, you could have cut out much of the unnecessary blank foreground (with the out-of-focus grass) and the unnecessary blank sky. I think that would have made a much more effective composition.

Did you use a tripod? That would have made the details sharper.

Beautiful soft colors, nice forms. I like this shot. But I think the tip of the out-of-focus bud in the foreground is distracting and somewhat spoils the overall composition.
  3. Thank you for your comments.

I agree with you both about the third stone. This reminds me of the game of Go - we must place every stone with careful deliberation. There is no second chance.

  4. It might be even better if you cropped about 10% off the top. That way you could get rid of the distracting white patches of sky showing through the foliage.

The bare branch sticking down from the top is also distracting and adds nothing, but the branches in the lower foreground, overhanging the rushing water, are a nice touch.

    Overall, a very pleasing composition.
