This may sound like old hat but I just got my flex back from DAG in Wisc. It took a while (8 weeks, Leica and parts problem)but the camera is better than new or at least quieter. If you don't need it for a while I would suggest sending it to him.

P.S. This problem with the shutter speeds is common with older Leicas. It comes from lack of use(I'm serious about this). Sometime when you are just watching TV grab the camera and start running through all the shutter speeds and it should start to loosen up.

  2. Another quality Photo dealer has bit the dust, succumed to the

digital age. Reimer's of Milwaukee, Wi. has closed its doors.

Unfortunatly this was the only Leica dealer in town. It seems our

resources are getting fewer as I am now relinquished to having to

travel to Chicago or work with mail order houses. Mention Leica to

other photo shops here and they comment "Leica? are they still in

business?" or "why pay all that money when you can buy a Contax which

is just as good? Oh well!

  3. Ah Joseph What I wouldn't give to be your age again. I started in with Leica at about the same age 35 years ago. The questions you have are mostly what any photg would ask. The only person who can answer them is you. Forget the cosmetics, decide on what is important as far as function is concerned. Both the 6 and 7 have strong points going for them, you must decide what you need. As far as zinc or brass in thirty years it won't matter because most of the cameras will be plastic anways. Mabe a less expensive way to get into Leica Rf's is used M3, M4 etc. These are still out there going strong. good shooting and keep us informed as to your progress and decisions I'm sure all of us old farts could use views of a new kid Good Luck!! P.S. I've still got and use my original Leica.

you know how all thw techno kids rave about the ease of use and great

quality they get with their new toys, well sometimes its fun just to

go back a few steps and try it the old way. All things improve with

time and imagination, but doing it the old way makes you appreciate

the newer ways so much more. Using the older Leicas makes you have to

think of things that are now taken for granted. IE the time lag from

focusing to framing, settings, anticipation of action (you only have

one chance no motor drive to make sure you get the peak of the

action. Sounds like work but by learning in this manner you can

become better with the newer gear.

  5. Mike I believe the rule you are quoting is "90% operator 10%

machine".:-) Personaly I've got an have both back loading flexes and

    bottom loading rf's m3, IIIc's. I've misloaded each at least once. I

tried to learn from my mistakes and have figured out what to watch

for. I guess I just accept it as another old German machinist's

rule " Ve haf been doing it like dis for years vhy do you vant to

    change it now?"

  6. Edward I've had the pleasure of doing business with Eric Kragtwijk.

He lives in the Netherlands and I in Wisconsin. Our deal went off

without a hitch and we were both very satisfied with the results. If

you look at other posts on this forum you will find many regular

contributors. I'm sure if you ask for feedback they will be honest in

their comments. While there is always the possibilty of a scam I'd

feel fairly safe purchasing from any of our regulars. All the sellers

that I've read about on the forum usually under-rate their gear as

    far as condition is concerned.

If you are planning to use the M2 as a beater the $450 is good price

I've used an M3 that I bought used for over twenty years and it still

works well though as soon as I get the flex back it will be going to

DAG's for a CLA. Even with a CLA factored in I think you are getting

    a good deal
