  1. Dave,

I learned the hard way about cleaning solutions while trying to clean

a B+W MRC Circ Polarizer. No fluid ever completely removed the

finger prints that turned into 'smudges'. I called B+W in Bad

Kreuznach and they suggested that I only should use alcohol and a

microfibre cloth. Sure enough, that worked.

Based on that, the microfibre cloth is always my first, second and

third choice. Only when I have stubborn smears will I dampen a small

portion of the cloth. (The cloth is washable at 60° C and best to

    use a non-coloring, non-perfumed detergent.)

FYI Ethanol 70% (V/V) is my solution. I had to have it mixed at my

local Apotheke (Pharmacy), but I think that you should be able to

    find one similar.

The other thing to consider is how much these small foggy, streaks

imapct image quality. I do not know of any published reports, but I

cannot image that by the time the light travels the distance to the

film surface, and is then exposed, then developed, how much if any

degradation there is in image quality. That will come as no

reassurance to anybody at this forum, if you are like me, and simply

enjoy having clean and mint instruments.

  2. There have been various lines written here and elsewhere over the past week regarding rumours of new products debuting at PhotoKina. Can someone please offer what they have heard, and if possible, from where or whom? For example, a few threads down, a enthusiast wrote that there may be a new 2.0/90mm R based on the M-90-Apo-Asph. Rumours can be wild at times, but once in a while one can find a gold nugget in the mix!
  3. I use a Nikon 885 for snapshots and web postings, and have found that

there is something immensely satisfying about having my shots almost

immediately. (And being quickly ready for distribution.) This alone

has changed my skeptical attitude towards digital. I still, not yet

anyway, only consider my film based systems for serious and "keeper"

photography. I also believe that with proper filing and storage that

both color negative and positive films will far out last digital

    storage medias.

It reminds me of Homer Simpson responding to Moe's new navy surplus

flash fryer that would fry a whole cow/buffalo in 45 seconds: "Awwwh,

45 seconds?! But I want it now!" ;-)

  4. Meßsucher. It is always correctly written with the ß. There are

technically not three "s", rather the ß and one "s" because it is a

word constructed by the combining of two precise words. Until the

language lords of the German Academy tell us otherwise, that is.

  5. I would agree with the previous suggestion that you look at the new

21-35. I bought one as soon as it was available and have shot almost

10 rolls exclusively with it. It was expensive, but the cost was

justified because of the 'large' range that it covers. If my memomy

is correct, the 19mm was a Zeiss designed or made lens. (No

complaints on that count!) The weight of the 19mm is 0,560kg, but I

cannot say what my 21-35 weighs, certainly not more. Based on

flexibility and freedom -- the zoom won the day and continues to do

    so.
