  1. I found a shop here in Thailand that will repair the viewfinder for my Leica M2. They sell used Leicas and is quite well-known by Leica collectors in this region. They're asking for $250 to replace a part from my M2, which I believe is the part that makes the framelines appear in the viewfinder when I turn the VF lever. At the moment, my M2 can only show the 35mm frameline, and the 50 and 90 are almost invisible even when respective lens is attached. They said that they'll get the part from another M2 that they have in stock since parts for the M2 are rare here. The price includes CLA of the viewfinder. Is this a fair price in your opinion?
  2. Thanks for the replies. I'm now having second thoughts on this

camera. It's a pity since he's selling it now for half the price of

a new one. It's still in good condition after I tested a roll of

film through it, but it has that annoying glitch. Maybe I'll look

around for a new one. I'm also considering a Ricoh GR1s instead.

  3. I'm interested in getting a friend's Leica Minilux w/ 40mm 2.4 lens. However, when I tested it, the lens won't retract fully when the camera is switched off. There are no more digits on the LCD display so I think it's off, but the lens stops short of going in the body, thus preventing the lens cover from covering it. My friend showed me a trick to fully retract the lens. He would turn the battery cap at the bottom of the camera half-way open then close it fully. By doing this, he can retract the lens fully. I'm now having second thoughts in getting his camera because of this glitch. I don't want to always turn off the camera by turning the battery cap. Does anyone know how to overcome this? Would this be repairable?

Also, does the Bulb function on the Minilux work like a toggle switch, or do I have to hold it down to keep the shutter open?

  4. I'm getting a zoom just for the convenience of not having to change lenses in fast moving situations (i.e. event photography). I already have a Nikon 20/2.8, 35/2, 50/1.8, and 80-200/2.8 with my F90. I've narrowed down my choice to either a new Nikon AF 28-105/3.5-4.5D that contains one hybrid aspherical element, or a second-hand Tokina AT-X 28-70/2.8 Pro II that features a high refraction, low dispersion glass (HLD). I have a budget of $350.

My question is, given that neither one of the lens has both features, would a hybrid aspherical element be better than an HLD glass if I'm mainly interested in getting sharpness and good color rendition in my pictures?
