  1. Hi, I'am contemplating buying 21,35(1.7),50,& 90 mm cv lenses for my newly aquired M6.The current spectacular deals from SOME UK dealers make them hard to resist.I am wondering though if these lenses will soon be available with M mounts rather than having to use adapters as the R2 BESSA may have an M mount.

More importantly, although the Leica lenses are better, how much better are they? If twice as good ,I'll buy Leica,if CV lenses are 99% as good I'll go for them.I can get 5 (yes five!)CV's for 1 leica.(well almost).Cheers all!

What a superb site this is,and I thank all respondents to my previous queries.

  2. What I mean is that you have to use the rangefinder to focus on subjects up to about 200 metres away till you get to the infinity position on the lens.

With previous cameras it was about 30 feet.

BTW my M6 & lens are brand new.

  3. I've noticed that on this lens infinity focus starts about 200 metres away!

On my other (slr)lenses infinty is about 30 feet.

Is this normal and the same on other M lenses,or is it a case of just

accurate focussing on my 0.58 body?

  4. Thanks for all your positive responses on the M6 i've ordered(see below).I'll let you all know how I get on.

BTW the 2.8 Elmar was not my 1st choice but the deal was hard to ignore!I may later change it for something faster,a 50mm summicron or 35mm asp.f2.Which one of these lenses gives a sharper image overall?

  5. Today I ordered a new M6 ttl .58 with 2.8 Elmar.

I decided against the 7 because of only 2 mech.speeds and the fact that they cost £1900 body only plus there maybe teething troubles!

Of course I also hear the horror stories about new M6's failing straight from the box, and I'm buying mail order! But the price was good and the're giving me a free leica flash. And of course I have longed for an M series since my first camera-a Zorki 4K 24 years ago!

Today I have come full circle.

  6. Saw the M7 at FOCUS yesterday so have decided to order an M6!

As I wear specs I need to get the .72 mag but am tempted to go for the .58 to make sure I see more of the framelines, esp. if I go for a 35mm lens.If I do this does the small size of the 90 mm frame make a 90mm impractical? And of course I'll lose the 135mm frame.

I just wondered how other spec wearers get on.

By the way, the R system I was thinking of selling is definatly having to go to pay for the M, all now at bargain prices!

    Please E-mail for details.

  7. Is it time for Leica to make a decent compact?

I don't no what the results are like from the "cheap" ones but they seem so plasticy and lightweight.

I understand the minilux(not zoom) gives good results but the viewfinder is awful, like looking down a long tunel!

    Howabout a minilux 2 with a more useful 35mm f2,decent v.f.and manual control.Any thoghts?

  8. If or when I sell my R4 system I'm gonna get an M6.

Question is ,do I buy used (in UK approx £1000) or new(UK about £1500 body only if you're lucky).Or do I wait and see if Leica produce an M7 with hopefully a decent veiwfinder(one that lets you use spectacles)a faster flash sync.and wider range of shutter speeds?
