  1. Mani,

Reporters Sans Frontiers has put out several annuals. The one on HCB

was excellent (goes without saying) and they did one featuring Robert

Dosineau (I know I'm misspelling it). I can't remember who the third

featured. I picked up my copy at large newstand here in NYC. You

might be able to order it from Reporters Sans Frontiers directly.

I'll check my issue when I get home tonight.

  2. Let's not jump to conclusions about whether this or that may or

may not happen. Obviously, this is a rapidly developing situation

and a national emergency, so we'll just have to wait and see. We

still getting bits and pieces of information. Only time will tell how

    we will all be affected.

And I know everyone means well (and this is not meant as a

personal attack to any members of this fantastic forum), but in

the face of this disaster, worrying about whether or not I can get

a hand inspection of my film or whether or not I can have a

carry-on bag seems a trivial matter. I work at a building adjacent

to the north tower of the WTC and after seeing the kind of

carnage and destruction that occured on Tuesday, I know that

things must change. What that means to me as a photographer

and how I accomplish my assignments, I don't know yet. And

frankly, part of me really doesn't care right now. I apologize for

souring the mood -- this forum has always been a great

    resource for information.

  3. If you are seriously committed to switching to an M6, then don't

start off by using Nikon lenses. One of the joys of using an M6 is

using the rangefinder system. By using Nikon lenses with an

adaptor, you will have to guess focus. My suggestion would be

to get an M6 and one lens. A 35 or 50 summicron pre-asph are

relatively inexpensive (or get a voigtlander lens).

  4. I just got a bright line finder to use with my 28 lens (for my M4

and M6). I find it helps tremendously in seeing the entire

frameline. My question is regarding parallax error. At what

distance should I really be concerned about parallax error when

using the external finder for framing (especially since the

placement of the finder isn't directly over the lens, but a little to

the right of the lens). A side question is why the hot shoe isn't

positioned such that it's directly over the lens in the first place.

    Thanks.

  5. I never use a flash, so I must admit I'm a bit ignorant on the

    subject

of flash photography. How do you use a m6 and cheapo flash to

get that "strobe/blurry" effect in photos? For example, let's say

you're photographing a guy walking at night. In the photo, he'd

be properly exposed and there would be little motion trails,

blurriness around him. I just thought I'd do a little experimenting

for fun and so far my photos have been washed out because

    they were overexposed. Thanks.
