  1. I would like to mount a Leica M camera together with a Metz CT-1 (handle flash). The simple bar bracket

that comes with the Metz, while the right idea is not really secure, the Leica pivots around and doesn't stay

aligned with the flash without constant care.

What I want to do is simply have the camera and the flash together as one unit in the simplest and most

stable way possible...without going the Stroboframe route or other similar bracket. As good as they all

are it makes the package way too big to use. I want as simple a setup as I can create...just the flash and

the camera with some secure way of having them be one piece.

I have searched B&H and other resources, talked with Really Right Stuff and others and have not found

    what I am looking for.

Any help or direction would be welcome.

    With thanks to all.

  2. Running a Mac with OS 10.3. To run the Canon 9950f I'm using the

PhotoStudio software. When I run gang scans of 12 slides (4x6" @

300dpi) the computer will crash with a "computer must be restarted"

message. And, of course, all scans made to that point are lost.

I allocated more ram, reduced the FARE to "low"...and there are no

other programs running in the background. Though they were pretty

quick to respond, Canon support had nothing to add...nothing.

Is there any experience in here around this?

    With thanks!

  3. Mendel...

Thanks for your question...I guess it isn't immediately apparent. If you look in the white

boxes, any of the shadow areas have blotchy areas that appear like sharpening

artifacts...they are not. If you look at the big box to the left, there is a cable running up

and down through the image...it goes black against the black area and develops a white

edge. In the right of that box you will also see a series of circular artifacts. In the image

on top, look in the shadow behind the front wheel of the car and the shadow area just in

front of the rear wheel. See what I mean? If you look you will see them. And they do

show up in the printed image.

I have attached a full view of the scene for what it is worth. The artifacts pepper the entire

image, these examples are to give the basic idea.

    What do you think?

    Best,

  4. I recieved a new Canon 9950f last night and immediately made a test scan to see what

would happen. I scanned a 4X6" color print at the maximum resolution (1200dpi) and

noticed immediately that there were artifact issues when FARE was turned on. Is this the

way it is or am I missing something? I have not tried a negative or slide as yet and I am

hoping this is an anomaly. If it is how FARE performs then it is completely useless; worse

yet it hurts more than it helps.

Anyone have thoughts? Here are examples, the artifact areas are within the white boxes.

    Thanks!

  5. I notice that both the Epson 4990 and Microtek i-900 come with a 35mm slide holders -

one will carry 24 slides, the other 12 slides at one time. My question is...when you scan

24 or 12 slides at a time is there a way to make 24 individual files - 1 distinct file for each

image or is it a 24 or 12 image contact sheet? If you can do it, how?

Will one scanner do it better than the other?

    With many thanks in advance!

  6. I have combed the archives for information about full frame scans using the major-maker

film scanners. My current LS-2000 appears no different than the other major brands in

that it will not make a full frame scan...all the way out to the edge of the exposed part of

the image (like a filed negative carrier in a wet darkroom). I wondered if any of the other

35mm scanners provided a scan right out to the edge AND including a little bit beyond the

exposed frame. I have corresponded with a colleague about the Minolta 5400 and it too

cuts part of at least one side of the image area so its not ideal...what about the others?

    Microtek 4000tf? Nikon 5000? Other?

    With thanks!
