Hey guys & gals,
Sorry to say you all got it wrong. The only way to go is to tell Leica
new CEO Ralf Coenen to call Apple Steve Job and ask him to
stick on Leica lenses on the i pod.
From then on there won't be any more problems for Leica...:^)

Hi Josh,
Go to the State of New Hampshire web site:
http://www.egov.nh.gov/medicine%2Dcabinet/
They give Canadian drugstores web. address to their citizens so they can buy
direct at a better price than in N.H.
If one of your State gvnmt. recommend them you can believe they are ok.
And BTW, Eckerd drug stores have just been bought by Jean Coutu Group
(PJC) pharmacy chain from Canada. So maybe their prices will become more
competitive!
Now next time you come here in Canada, just be sure you bring your Leica
and buy some films in a pharmacy!

Really? Do you remember if it was made in Germany or Canada as it would surprise me if lenses made in two different location would have the same problem.
BTW the only fungus I saw on lenses was on an old Summarit lens from the fifties and on a Kodak slide projector lens I had bought new around 1975.

Hello Mitch,
I have a 90mm Tele-Elmarit (Canadian made) since 1979. It has no fungus, is almost like new and gave great pictures in it's lifetime (even won a contest with one of them).
This is a great lens for travel. I think fungus was recorded on lenses made prior to these (maybe the first version).

"Not sure if this works with the M4-P"
answ: Yes it does. I have this same set-up and it works just fine. Beside beeing practical and an excellent meter, the MR4 looks great on a M4P!
It is as accurate as my M6TTL meter.
But then, a handheld meter has advantages of it's own.
Have a great day,

Hi Richard,
York International on Ste.Catherine St. W. (Downtown)
Simon's Camera on St.Antoine St. W. (near Old Montreal)
Viala on Maisonneuve St.E. (East of downtown)
York has usually a large selection to choose from.
Simon's (the oldest camera store in Mtl) doesn't show all their
stuff. You have to ask. They must have a warehouse full of
Leicas...
Viala is another old store where you can make discoveries.
Best of luck!

Heliopan Yellow 5 Lichtfilter. Size E 49, SLIM version.
I have the latest Tri-Elmar, with hood and use Yellow and Red
Heliopan filters. Works great.
And a great lens btw.
Best regards from Canada!

Hi Pierre,
Seems like we have the same Leica dealer (Louis at Photo
Laplante)!
(trad: On a le meme representant, Louis!)
-
Hi Pierre and the other ones on this thread.
I had the same offer from my Leica dealer this afternoon for Cdn$1950.-
(US$1,418.-)
These lenses are new, with caps but without the 21mm finder.
They come directly from the Elcan factory in Midland, Ontario (former Leitz
Canada factory). They seem to have found a stock of these unsold lenses.
They bear the Elmarit name but my dealer could not tell me if they had the
Leica or Leitz name on.
He told me he would buy himself one (he has his own M6). On my part, I
have a nice (and small) Russar 20mm that does a fine job.
Interesting story isn't it! What else could they find in this "old" Leica factory?

Hello William,
I bought one (in fact the Gift Set), last October to give to my wife
for her birthday (end of November).
She has taken maybe a dozen film since then. Photo quality is
excellent. Camera construction and ergonomic is also excellent.
This camera is way better than her previous Pentax P&S.
It is not an M Leica but it is an excellent choice for this type of
camera.

Hi there,
Just to emphasize what Olivier wrote about Montreal weather, I am back
home after driving two hours through snow on the Eastern Township
autoroute...
For us around here, it's the time of year when we go through our contact
sheets of last summer and fall films taken in Southern California :^), the
Southwest and the Gaspe coast on the Atlantic...
Meanwhile, the M6TTL, M4P, 35, 50, 90, 20, 28-35-50 lenses are at a
standstill...
sigh...

Hello Jim,
A similar lens test has been available for some time on Gary
Reese Zuiko Lens Test web site at:
http://members.aol.com/olympusom/lenstests/default.htm
Gary is very knowledgeable on the subject. You can trust his
tests.
It may be interesting to compare the one you will be doing and
his.
I am always surprised to see how many Leica users have been
Olympus SLR aficionados. When I bought an SLR camera in
1974, I could have bought almost anything on the market but
decided on the OM-1 because of its size. Since then, it is the
SLR system I have been using. In the same camera bag, I can
carry my M6TTL, a Tri-Elmar, a 35mm Summicron and an OM-1
with a zoom lens. Picture quality can be very near in most cases
but without doubt Leica cameras and lenses are better made.

Thanks Andy,
It seems I already had answered my own question! After I posted it, I
tried a 39mm filter on the lens and it worked. I feel a bit stupid not
to have tried this before after more than 13 years owning the lens.
Must be because I purchased the Tele-Emarit at the same time I bought a
CL with the 40mm Summicron. Both could use the 5,5 filters.
And Thomas, for the moment I don't think I would sell the rubber hood.
Cheers,
J.L.

I have a 90mm Tele-Elmarit-M (the thin version). Presently, it has the regular 11250 rubber hood on it which double itself as the filter holder for series 5,5 filter normally used with this lens. I just bought a 12575 metal hood to replace the rubber one. My question is how can I still use 5,5 filters with this hood on my Tele-Elmarit lens? They need a filter holder on each side. If not, the glass part of the filter would rest directly on the glass of the lens! The rubber hood has a part that I can unscrew and use as the top portion of the filter holder but I need a bottom part. Or, would there be any other filters beside the 5,5 that could fit the 90mm Tele-Elmarit-M (maybe 39mm)?
Any of you have this lens and same request?

Re:Peter from Saint John N.B.

Hi Peter,
If you are driving to Montreal tomorrow be careful. Weather is also
quite bad around here today. Freezing rain + snow!!! You know, the
usual joys of Canadian winter...You can't even take a Leica outside on
a day like this :o(

Enjoy your visit at the auto show!

Hello Martin! Nice to know there is a member from Kahnawake. I have
been attending the July Pow-Wow twice in the last 3 years. I want to
make it every year. I also noticed you took most of the pictures in the
programs I bought.
Maybe we could meet next July if you have the time.

Hi Ilkka,
I have an M4P and just bought a few months ago an M6TTL.
One of the main reason I bought the M6TTL was for the LED light meter
that I didn't have on the M4P. The LED is easy to see and works great.
I didn't have any problem with the speed dial turning the other way and
can say I much prefer it's size making the speed change almost as on
the M2 or M5 wich is easier while looking thru the viewfinder at the
same time.
The M6TTL bigger size is not really noticeable. I would not consider
this an issue.
The TTL flash wasn't important for me but since I bought the camera, I
also added the tiny SF20 flash just to try it. It was usefull during
the Christmas Holidays when shooting inside! It also is a gem to use
and it is so compact.
The first lens I would buy for an M Leica is a 35mm. The pre-ASPH
Summicron is an excellent choice. I have one and will always keep it.
It makes great pictures and this lens is very small.

Best Regards,

Hello P.H.C.
I just bought the Leica loupe a month ago. I wanted a good loupe to
check contact prints primarily, to view slides in second and to check
b&w negatives.
1° The thickness and opacity of the transparent mount at the base of
the magnifier (when used without the metal lens barrel to view prints)
makes it somewhat hard (at least for me) to check 35mm contacts. Not
enough light comes thru.
2° On the other hand, to view slides, this magnifier is sublime. The
slides (KR-64, E100-VS) jump at you, with a real 3D look. I've never
seen anything better than that. For this unique reason, this loupe
should be bought even though it is somewhat expensive like all the
Leica stuff.
I ended up buying a second magnifier just to check my contact prints.
The one I bought is a small Nikon rectangular shape 8x loupe that rally
does the job well (at 1/6 the price of Leica 5x Universal loupe!).
So, if your primary use is to check contact prints, I would first buy
the Nikon or some other loupe better suited for this purpose. If you
really want to see what a slide can look like, I see the Leica as the
best way to do so.

Hi, This is the first time I write to this forum which I have been
reading for the past month. I was on the LUG for a few years but not
any more, not having the time to go through all the emails coming in.
What I prefer about this forum is a more direct approach to Leica
photography.
This said, I have to congratulate Lutz K. for his brilliant ideas on
how to improve M photography. The best designs are always the most
simple.
I just signed up with Paypal so I could order one SFILL in January.
This is a really practical solution to improve this nice little flash.

Best Regards,
Jacques Leonard
