  1. Bill,

The track curves around to the driver's right, I stood on the left edge, behind a cement wall! I know what you mean about the fill flash, but I was using a 560mm lens and was far out of flash range!!! You can go to the same spot in the afternoon, and get full frontal lighting, but what I like about this is that you can see the light under the lifted tire. I also put it up to answer the question "how flare resistant are the Leica lenses?" As you can see, really flare resistant! The blacks are really pure, and this is about as backlit as you can get...

  2. Tim,

The key to stopping the car is to shoot a lot of frames, and try to perfectly match the speed of the car. If you're persistent, you'll get a few good ones, and a lot of junk!!! You can see that the rear wing is pretty sharp, while the front of the car is falling apart. As the angle of the car to the lens changes, only one point on the car realy stays sharp (if you get it right) the rest "smears."

I was really intrigued with the light reflecting off of the track and under the car, and just waited for the sun to set. I also like the way the shadow stayed pretty sharp while moving over the grass.

    Glad you liked it!
